I have stayrd pn several pccasions. this place is very well run. Warm, clean, friendly. It gets a little better every time with small incremental improvements to the building and the fittings. It has intimations of the former glory years when the building wasWellington's Hotel Waterloo. It's howw a city based backpackers ought to be run.

We spend 5 days at Downtown Backpackers and actually really enjoyed it. Close to the train station, parliament and interislander ferry terminal. The double room was tidy and clean but not special. Considering we stayed at hostels all over the country... this one was the worst!! The carpets were musty and the loo had a pretty bad stench. The people were nice however. But considering you get bad sleep, the people cant change your views of the place!

There is no free Wifi but there is a Mac Donalds next door and a supermarket (expensive) across the road. I only stayed 1 night in the dorm. it was clean, well-kept even just a dorm. no doubt, the location is strategically situated..... i had good stay there....good sleep... staffs are polite, professional, attentive, providing good service.
