I had read previous reviews but decided to stay here due to the central location. We drove straight off the motorway into the hotel entrance and our car was valet parked ($18) - almost too easy. Our room had 2 double beds and was certainly adequate for my daughter and myself. I agree the rooms are small, but that is... more

This could have been any other business hotel anywhere else in the world. Our room was nice and a fairly good price. The bathroom was uselessly small - don't expect to shower unless you are shorter than 5'. I still find it abysmal (and this is no reflection per se on the James Cook) that any major hotel charges for... more

Centrally located for shopping, bit of a walk to find food at night. Our room consisted of 2 double beds and was well decorated. $129 NZ a night. $18 per day parking. We ate at the restaurant one night, $40NZ for the buffet. Good range of food - don't see the old buffet too much these days. We struggled to... more

Odd hotel set up. Restaurant on upper floor and looks more like a cafeteria. Decent location near stores and restaurants. more

Its very difficult to write anything about this hotel as everything about it was just so average. We stayed for 3 nights as part of a longer trip. The room was avergae size and felt neither spotlessly clean or particularly dirty. Bed was Ok. Location was convenient for most things and it was easy to walk down to the harbour.... more

The location could not be more ideal. Right in the middle of the city, walking distance to everything, just phenomenal. Service was good (not great). The rooms are on the small side and "oldish". If you're looking for a prime location in the center of Wellington, this is the place for you. if you're looking for a luxurious hotel, look... more

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights before catching the ferry to South Island. The location was excellent - most of what we wanted to see was easily walkable. We took a room on the executive floor as this had great views of the harbour and also ha breakfast thrown in. The room was fine - not great, but... more

Booked 2 nights through Rates to Go for a family weekend in Wellington and was able to arrange a late Sunday checkout. Not that this was much use because the housekeepers woke me up at 8.15am both days. And this was after I'd finallly got to sleep through the din of banging doors and rumbling plumbing. Even though I had... more

We booked a Club Room which was spacious and clean. When we booked in, the receptionist advised us we were entitled to complimentary soft drinks and snacks and Internet access. When we went up to the bar at 5pm we discovered that alcoholic drinks were also complimentary between 5pm & 7pm. There were also some excellent bar snacks available free... more

The public areas are generally very nice, the room it turns out is only ok. The bathroom could really do with a refit. I wonder if this hotel trades on its name, historically is was regarded as one of the better hotels in Wellington. more
