Lovely lighthouse-style accommodation in Island Bay. Right across the street from beach access, so it's easy to go for a swim. The third floor offers unparalleled views of the bay and the strait, with 360° windows, and you can actually see the south island on a clear day! Bedroom is charming and comfortable, the accommodation is clean. Bruce is wonderful... More

We stayed at The Lighthouse for one night while on Honeymoon. We wanted someplace unusual and interesting and this fitted the bill! Beautiful location and views, even though it is on a busy road we found it very quiet. Great atmosphere at the top, so peaceful and relaxing & those views!!! Plentiful breakfast options – we hadn't expected so much... More

We stayed at The Keep for one night while traveling through New Zealand in March. We wanted someplace unusual and interesting and this caught our eye. Here are some pros. Beautiful location and views, even though it is on a busy road we found it very quiet thanks to the concrete construction. Great ambiance. The hatch to the roof is... More

My husband arranged a night at the Lighthouse as a surprise birthday treat and I loved it. Yes, it could do with a bit of a spring clean, but the important bits (shower, toilet, kitchen, bedroom) were spotless. Yes, the stairs are steep and windy but...its a lighthouse! Yes, there are no curtains on the numerous little windows, but I... More

Wow!!!! What a great idea, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Lighthouse and the views were awesome. We had a rainbow provide a 1 hour long light show for us in the afternoon. Bruce was very accommodating and catered for our needs in a most professional way. Had a great stay, this is a must on anyone's bucket list....you... More

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the lighthouse. My one negative was the fact of waking up early due to there being no curtains in the bedroom. Great breakfast provisions provided. Would recommend that everyone stay in a lighthouse at least once.

We loved staying at the lighthouse, quirky and quaint. Fantastic and very hospitable host. Breakfast provisions were wonderful and could easily have covered lunch or dinner as well. Views were lovely as was the location. If you are wanting something different and not your conventional motel room, then this is the place. Enjoyed it so much decided to stay on... More

The positives.. Great breakfast supplies. Good views. The negatives .... The Lighthouse is very tired. I would compare the surroundings to back packer style . I was so looking forward to our stay there but must say as soon as we walked into the ground floor my heart sank. We couldn't wait to get out of the place. The cost... More

I have to admit that, out of a mindblowing Australian East Coast and whole of New Zealand itinerary, the one night in the Lighthouse was the peak highlight for all members of the family - unanimously. I was lucky enough to be the one sleeping in the lantern (not before uncorking a bottle of Cloudy Bay Riesling we got earlier... More

We stayed in the lighthouse for my partners birthday recently. We live in the city and rode our bikes from Wellington CBD to Island Bay, taking about 30 mins. The lighthouse itself is split over 3 floors, kitchen and bathroom on the bottom, bedroom with tv and dvd player on the middle and on the top, a chill out area... More
