First off let me let you know that in this review I'm going to try and be fair and objective, not totally scathing or totally praiseworthy like Sher- sorry I mean Deb J. Tauranga is a nice enough city, not too much going on but there are some things to spend time doing. Mt. Maunganui can be quite picturesque on... More

Thank you Steven for your feedback Just to clarify a couple of your points The work situation you described is correct the weather does have a large impact. We are now able to provide the free 200MB WIFi as we have changed suppliers and after 9 years of not giving it out yes I may need reminding. The guys you... More

If you want to get a job in Tauranga you can find throughout Sherie or by yourself. If she find, you have to stay there, of course, be careful if you are asian she would ask you your bank account number so she can withdraw money (without asking) from you if you leave the hostel, which is extremely iligal. How's... More

Hi Jonathan Thanks for your feedback The contract is a legal work contract ( written by a lawyer) saying if we find you work you will commit to the number of weeks at the lodge Everybody that we find work will sign it as we are not a job agency and the only benefit we get out of helping to... We went to Bell Lodge because i called them to ask about jobs. They told me there was work starting the next day, there was not. If they would have said there MIGHT be work then it would have been okay. It wasn't raining or anything, they just lied. They did find us work a few days later, wish they... More

The hostel manager and her agresive husband named Rick run the hostel and the are basically the mayor issue with the place. The rest of the problems I encountered there were minor compared to the lack of respect and mistreatment that me and my friend experienced in the hands of this violent and rude managers. Once this drunk manager chased... More

Myself and my girlfriend stayed for 6 weeks to work while travelling new zealand. Bell lodge requires you to sign a contract so if u leave the lodge u loose your work so people are stuck there. Its very expensive for what you get, mould on windows and shower in the room. People in 8 bed dorms paid 10 dollars... More

We arranged to stay at Bell Lodge as we were in Tauranga for a wedding - and couldn't be happier! Met a few interesting people on their travels to New Zealand and became quite attached to a cat that likes to hang around the backpacker lodging. Sheree was brilliant, even lending us an iron when our wedding attire had become... More

Its quiet, its comfortable and cheap I went to bell lodge in June 207 and stayed there for about nine months. I had an amazing time making wonderful friend from all over the world. The place looks like a huge hose and that's how it feels which bring every one who are staying there as close as a family.

Had stayed here previously on 2 trips to NZ from Perth Western Australia. Had a 2 bedroom "unit" This time was a letdown. Staff helpful, but rooms now just basic and could do with some refurbishment. Generally "tired and run down" Next trip to Tauranga will seek elsewhere to stay.

stayed in bell lodge for 2 months 1/2 in 2012,rooms are clean enough, lounge is really nice and kitchen spacious, the people staying there were amazing. now onto the bad stuff: the owners are clearly lying about the jobs to make people stay,it can be weeks(4 for me and my friends)before getting any job after being promised that "it starts next week".... I went to Bell Lodge in March 2009 for the start of the Kiwi season as the Lodge is very much a working hostel. I got on so well and loved my time there I ended up staying 6 months! During this time Rick and Sheree treated me very well finding and keeping me in work for the majority of... More
