Nine of our ladies booked here to have an enjoyable weekend together. On arrival the rooms were cold, dark and smelt mouldy and full of beds (no lounge area) - just not what we expected. We approached the owner who was very unapproachable and rude. He refused to refund us our $470 for the night (for the two rooms). After... More

We picked this motel on the basis that it had private mineral pools attached to some units and the rooms looked okay on the website - which is certainly not representative of the complex as a whole. There were several features that made it feel more like a backpackers': a great long list of "don'ts" for guests (including drunken vomiting... More

The Lakefront Motor Lodge is an aging facility that is quite a walking distance to the town center. I paid $150NZ/night (walk-in price, I did not reserve) for an upper floor unit with a queen bed, table/chairs, tv in the large room (plus balcony). There was a single bed, chair, closet, and mirror/shelf in the smaller room. The kitchenette had... More

We have been to roturua and taupu so many times, most of the time I check reviews on trip advisor to select hotel or motel except this time, then it turns into a nightmare. I know that with hotel or motel at this price and cheaper, I would have a much pleasant stay. Additionally, we’ve been charged more! I would... More

We would not recommend for the following reasons: -room was small and very basic -the price is similar to others that are of a higher standard -you are only given one key to the room and when we asked for another we were abruptly told no. -the power went out and although we brought this to the owners attention he... We spent two nights in the 2-room end unit closest to the lake (# 13, I think), and our views were very good. Our main room looked-out over the lake and over a park. This hotel isn't fancy, but it is very clean & we were very comfortable. We had a private balcony with a private hot mineral bath, and... More

We stayed in a basic studio room which was clean and had everything we needed. The room is not modern, but then it's not as old as some of the 70's and 80's places you find in NZ. The room has had a flat screen TV added but you cannot watch it unless you sit right back on the be.... More

I agree with other reviewers - the reality was nothing like the website, and if I hadn't prepaid I wouldn't have stayed. Friendly owners, nice dog - I'm glad to hear that rennovations are underway. The unit was cosy once the curtains were drawn after dark, although both the bed and sofa had a lean on them which was uncomfortable.... More

The above is not only my opinion, but that of our whole party, including our 91-year-old Aunt, who has seen a few motels in her time! This is a poor two-star masquerading as a four-star. It is nearly double the price of its competitors in Taupo. Yumiko, one of the proprietors, is delightful, and the rooms are spotlessly clean (she... More

Thank you for your feedback. We do not up-sell our rooms. We offered you to up-grade the room, so you could be side by side with your family, which you declined. The room your family stayed in was renovated. The unit you stayed has 2 heaters, one is a wall heater which is operated on a 2 hour timer( recomended... More
