Stayed with kids during school holidays. Rooms ok and tidy. Was looking forward to the private mineral spa but ours sprung a leak on the first night. In fairness it was repaired as soon as we notified the owners. The second night was very noisy and there didn't seem to be any attempt by the owners to keep the other... More

This Motel was one of the worst I have ever stayed in and I was extremely disappointed as it is also a Golden Chain Motel, which I thought had a particular standard. Obviously not. The 4 star Qualmark ranking was 2 too many in my view. Bulbs missing from lights, dirty carpets, dirty sheets, and very dated. Always room check... More

I used to stay here frequently 10+ years ago and last night needed a place in Taupo so booked in again. This is still such a good place, comfortable large rooms, even the Studio rooms are huge, with excellent location and of course the spa pool in every room. The bed in my studio unit was super comfortable, the linen... More

Our room was lovely and warm, mostly modern.. the cabinets could use a makeover but.....when you have a courtyard with a hot tub with water coming direct from the Lake, who cares right?! Our beds, linen and blankets were not worn, all fresh and clean as were the towels, facecloths and hand towels, with plenty of spares. Good lighting and... More

A motel typical of its age - looking and feeling tired. The relatively new owners are progressively working their way through the units, and their efforts show. My room was clean and tidy and beautifully warm, and the bed was comfortable. Refurbishment efforts need to include kitchen utensils and floor coverings. The shower head was like something I have never... More

Was pleasantly surprised after reading the previous reviews, our room was clean and tidy, very spacious and had a lovely modern and homely feel. Loved the large spa room, this was just what we needed after a long and eventful drive up! Staff were very understanding when we explained we were going to be late checking in due to car... More

I hate to say this but the Karaka Tree Motel was the most probally the worst of all Motels we stayed in while in New Zealand. It wasn't dirty, just very shabby and worn including the linen. I think the 4 star qualmark is perhaps a little generous. Our room was a reasonable size and it did have a Spa... More

Absolutely disgusted , but had booked to stay with credit card so had to stay one night, dirty wet cleaning rag left on couch ( genuinely surprised it had actually been used) , old crappy teatowls ( the ones with the squares) popular cheap style , flannel is similar to what I have just thrown away as it had a... My partner and I stayed here for one night and found this place to be pretty good. This place is located on the main road of Taupo along with all of the other motels. There is a lot of traffic on this road and it is hard to walk across the road to the walkway beside the lake due to... More

An aging but well maintained property, it presented as clean and neat. The inroom spa is enormous and apparently thermal spring fed, I did not try but judged based on the inlet pipe, sulpha stains and geothermal region. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and carried my bag upstairs once they heard I had an injured knee. My continal... More
