Missed a special on DeBrett's because wife was unsure, booked this place for the same price - boy did she regret that decision. The Spa Hotel has the feel of a remote hotel from a b-grade slasher flick, which didn't work too well for her. The rooms were functional, although there were dead bugs all through the bed sheets. The... More

We were going to stay in the studio units but as they were too far away from other family members we asked for a chalet instead. The staff member was very helpful and managed to get us 2 chalets together. The chalets needed a bit of work but after talking to the owners found that they had only taken over... More

I am going to try to be politically correct and find something positive ... oh, I know LEAVING! This was the RUDEST most disgusting behaviour I have ever encountered. Should NOT be allowed to take bookings. Whilst we were there ... no water in the bathrooms to flush the toilets or wash your hands. The owners were DRUNK themselves and... More

Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Management were drunk in the morning and not welcoming or friendly. Filthy rooms and amenities . We had 52 people at a function, we were not looked after and management did not offer meals in the bar. 52 people buying potato chips from a vending machine.. Where's your liqueur license? Very very poor... More

Good points: Close to walking tracks, generally quiet, good reasonably priced meals, bar, warm room even when freezing outside, bed was ok to sleep on with clean sheets, most staff are friendly, AC baths are a short walk away, no noisy kids. Bad points: Bloody big cockroaches, stained carpet, cobwebs on ceiling, leaking toilet, no hot water (barely warm) dated+run... More

After a previous night in the middle of nowhere (Clements Clearing DOC site) we were looking for somewhere closer to Taupo to pitch up when we popped into the Spa Hotel. The staff here were friendly and said we could pitch up on site for $5. I'm not sure if this is something they still offer, or its seasonal, as... More

A few touch-ups around the place might make the difference how much business comes your way. We travel back and forth through the North Island and we don't mind were we stayru so long as It's got a 1: Bed that's clean and made. 2: Shower & Toilet - must be clean. 3: Somewhere Safe to Kipp your head down.... We ended up staying here when most of the Taupo accommodation was booked out over new years. We were in a one bedroom unit (with a loft upstairs, with three more beds) situated along a stream. On the good side, the unit was spacious and clean enough, and the beds comfortable. However, there were numerous small issues that indicated the... More

I booked our accommodation through Wotif which provided the option of a studio unit for $85 or a one bedroom for $95. I chose the latter but we were directed to a studio and which only corrected after my insistence with the lady who checked us in.. Our unit had the moniker "The Pondy" and was positioned alongside the studios.... More

At $5 per person per night for camping you can't really grumble, the bar is reasonable with pool and darts to keep you entertained and the food is really good - we were even given free mussels! The toilet/shower arrangement is slightly odd though - they have a couple of WWOOFers who use an apartment and campers share their facilities... More
