We stayed in Number 2, it was a cosy kiwi bach with everything we needed to cook our own meals and be totally self-contained and even though it was icy outside it was warm and comfortable inside. We chose the Lodge because it was walking distance to the Waitahanui River and could spend all day fishing, which we did. The... More

Thank you for your review. I'm so pleased you were warm and comfortable when we've been getting such cold and frosty weather and its a pleasure to provide a well equipped kitchen so you can stay in and cook for yourself on these cold nights rather than having to go out for a meal. More

We only wanted an overnight stop on our way south and were lucky to discover Waitahanui Lodge’s reviews on Tripadvisor. Yet again Tripadvisor has found us a great place to stay away from the crowds. We were in unit one and loved the way the character has been retained without compromising on comfort and efficient facilities. We had to put... More

Thankyou for commenting on your stay at our lodge. I hope the sunset was worth waiting an hour for dinner! I'm sure it was, we get the most amazing sunsets here. More

We had a wonderful two night stay in Room 1. Being so close to the lake is just magical, we even went for a dip in the lake! Lovely and peaceful, a truly special place to stay. We all enjoyed experiencing the kiwi bach way of life, even if only for a couple of days. Thanks Sue for being such... More

Thankyou for reviewing us. Being the furthest from the beach, Room 1 is our least popular cottage, but really quaint and a bit quirky. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay here. More

Lovely friendly place where dogs are welcome. Amazing lake views with use of BBQ area and kayaks. Would highly recommend for a kiwi rustic Bach get away. New bathrooms. Five star in friendlyness, location and cleanliness.

We managed to fluke a one night stay in room 4 and so glad we did. Our last stay here was around 35-36 years ago and it is still (as I have seen described elsewhere) "the quintessential bach experience". From the trout smoker to "Lodge" the cat, to the organic herb and vege garden, super comfortable beds and communal lakeside... More

Our family enjoyed five days of pre-Christmas relaxation at this wonderful spot and would have enjoyed more if it wasn't for the No Vacancy sign. Sue was a wonderful hostess and the bach (5) was a good size for our family of 4. The kids loved using the kayaks and having access to the boiler room where we also bbq'd... More

What a wonderful review of our lodge. We are such a small non-pretentious motel that it always excites me when people have such a memorable time. Its a slice of old NZ but a bit more comfortable i hope. I am so glad you could experience it with your family. More

The lovely owner Sue gave us a great welcome using our names & real good handshake. We knew we were going to spend 2 happy days here. Our cute Bach was very comfortable with all that we required & more. Felt like going back in time !!!! Very clean, quiet & a place that you did not want to be... More

Hi Margot and Ken, Thankyou so much for taking the time to write a review of your stay at the lodge. I apologise for not responding sooner. We just enjoyed four days of bliss at Waitahanui lodge. It really is the perfect batch get away, with well appointed kitchen (everything we needed was there), comfortable beds, brand new bathroom ( we stayed in room 4), and great hosts. My husband could try his hand at fly fishing for the first time, and some great advice from Sue... More

Thank you so much for taking time to post a review and so glad you had such a relaxing time here. You were such easy going guests and the room was so immaculate when you left that I was hard pressed to find something to clean. We would love to have you back to stay. More

Another wonderful, warm hostess. The room was perfect and well appointed. The location is great, south of town but not too far. The location on the beach was perfect. We did make use of the BBQ to cook up the last of our fish. Really, just another great vacation rental for a good rate.

Thankyou for taking the time to review us. As soon as I read about cooking up the fish I remembered who you were! You gave us a huge plateful of snapper and terakihi that's you'd caught elsewhere. You don't often get given seafood in a trout fishing area. In fact I think it was a first for us! It was... More

Stayed here for two nights with my husband and two boys aged 10 and 12. Gorgeous original Bach that has been done up to be very comfortable and modern inside with everything you would need.
