The location of this hostel is pretty good - right next to the coastal walkway, which leads to town and the swimming beaches (about 25 mins). It's on a quiet residential street. The hostel is set in an old house, it is nicely furnished and feels homely. There are no dorms, which is always good. Our room was nice, and... More

Wow, where do I start? Strange, strange couple, very unwelcoming. Upon arrival when I enquires where the nearest bar/restaurant was, he said the hostel probably 'was not for me' due to the fact that I was on a weekend away and wanted to go to a bar!! He was so rude, why he works in hospitality I have no idea!!... More

Materially speaking I cannot fault this place as the building is beautiful and the facilities excellent. However the acting manager has an especially unusual way with his guests and In my case he initially claimed that I woke him in the night and that I would have to change my room or leave the hostel, adding that the sandals that... This would be a fine review of a backpackers but the beds ruin the entire experience. Our host said upon arrival that the beds are unusually "soft"…this was an understatement! We are a family of three and each of us had tortuous nights without sleep due to the beds…sleeping on the floor should have been considered! I cannot stress this... More

I stayed a week at Seaspray House, and throughly enjoyed it. The house itself is bright, clean, and wonderfully maintained. I didn't mind the no-shoes rule at all. It makes the hostel seem more like a cozy home away from home, and keeps the floors tidy throughout the day. The kitchen is large and open, with a gas stove. There... More

Weird rule about taking your shoes off before coming in to the hostel aside, this is a 5-star hostel. Situated just 10 minutes walk from the town, and even closer to the sea, this a a quiet haven. Friendly and helpful staff, the hostel is clean and comfortable. I didn't use the kitchen nor lounge much while I was there... More

Had a very good stay in Seaspray house, I arrived at 2.30 pm and having made my way round the back to leave my bag, I was welcomed by receptionist who was happy to check me in. First impression was good, large kitchen, lounge and liked the fact that you had to remove your shoes! Had a "private" corner in... More

An attractive Edwardian house in a quiet area of New Plymouth. Our room was spacious ,well furnished with a dressing room. It even had a wardrobe. The atmosphere in the hostel was friendly and we were made to feel at home. The lounge was comfortable with plenty of games etc. to keep us busy when the weather was poor.Having run a Guest House...
