Ducks and Drakes was a great place to stay in New Plymouth. The location is central given it is close to both downtown as well as Pukekura Park. The details are charming, the staff friendly, and the rooms quiet. There's even a cosy fireplace, perfect for cool nights. I would definitely stay there again.

Our group of 14 students and 2 administrators (from Boston, MA, USA) enjoyed our stay at Ducks & Drakes. Particularly enjoyable was the courtyard experience where we were able to meet and share meals. Rooms were nicely furnished and clean. Owners were very accommodating and friendly. We would most certainly stay here again upon return.

Our extended family stayed at the Ducks & Drakes Hotel for a night and it was a great experience. We loved that the hotel had options so that some of us could stay in the motel units and others in the hostel type accomodation. The decor in the hostel is very funky - loved the rooms! And motel units were... More

This a friendly, homely place where I've stayed before when in New Plymouth for the WOMAD festival. It's 20 minutes walk to the festival venue, so very convenient, as I don't have a car, and it's a safe location for solo travellers returning from the festival venue alone at night. It's also just a few minutes walk into the CBD.... More

was a nice enough place, but thought was a bit pricey just for a standard small room, I checked out other local places and got far better deal at carrington st. (further-this is stupid having to put 200 characters before you can submit a review of the place)

clean, well maintained place. lots of character and personal touches made, giving it a homey feel - it didn't feel like a hostel at all! the owners were incredibly friendly and helpful. this is a true example of what this type of accommodations should be like. highly recommended, would definitely stay there again.

I stayed here at the last minute and found the staff pleasant and the accommodation tidy. Advantage with walking distance to town and the shore front. This is for the younger set but they made me feel welcome. Thanks

Had a fantastic stay whilst there for Womad 2015. Bit of a mix up at the beginning but was sorted really quickly. Owners were lovely and friendly. The property was clean and tidy and location was perfect for the bowl of brooklands.

My teenaged son and I stayed for one night on our way up the west coast of NZ. It was very pleasant. Brett was extremely friendly and accommodating, pointing us tourists in the right direction for a good meal and walk about. I'd definitely stay there again if I'm ever back that way. There's a wonderful bakery one block down... More
