This is a hostel that tries really hard to ensure its guests have a memorable stay. They organize nightly activities -- for the night I was there, they did a 2-for-1 pub crawl. Excellent decor and facilities, free pancakes on Sunday mornings (although I learned I am horrible at making pancakes), great atmosphere. Beds were slightly flimsy: when I climbed... More

Definitely would choose this hostel again if I go back to Rotorua! My boyfriend and I stayed four nights the other week- one in a dorm and three in a private- and we had no complaints at all. The hostel has such a cool decor, lots of bright colors, and spacious rooms. The four bed dorm had loads of space,... More

Of all the hostels I stayed in during my 2-week trip in NZ (minus the 3 days I was lucky enough to get a cheap single room), this was the best hostel I stayed in booking a shared bedroom. The staff was exceptionally helpful, giving me tips on all the best walking tracks and even helping me switch over a... More

Something was always going on at Crash Palace. The place was fun and funky. The bathrooms were clean and the staff helpful and friendly. It was a little weird that they did your laundry for you, but nice at the same time. The bed frames were fine, but the mattresses were so thin you could feel the slats of the... More

I booked a single room and it was very nice, pretty big. The bathroom is okay, pretty clean. Réception is nice. Location is also very good. Walls are thin, you can hear other people, but in the evening it was quiet.

This place rocks. Very friendly, always something going on. Free meal on Fridays and go in draw to get room refund. Great music, good clean facilities, good bar and very helpful attendants. you can't get better than this for $16.

We stayed two nights at Crash Palace over Christmas. Even though festivities were in full swing (particularly on Christmas night), we didn't mind. The hostel had a great vibe, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. We stayed in a double room, with shared bathroom. The room was great value and clean (as were the bathrooms). We should make... More

so far in my trip I have stayed in a few hostels around NZ and I can honestly say that Crash Palace has been the best by far and I have been here for less than a day! Karine and Minka are so friendly and welcoming, super helpful and always smiling. The whole set up in the hostel makes you... More

I spent four nights in Rotatrua at the Crash Palace. Easily the best hostel I stayed in throughout my New Zealand travels, or indeed my travels either side of NZ. Has a great layout, nice rooms, bar and free meals on a couple of days. But most importantly the staff are lovely! There is always something going on in the... More

this is one of the nicest hostels I've stayed in. The owner, Chris, really looks after the people who stay there. It's got a great atmosphere and is really personable. The community areas are comfortable and well facilitated. I would definitely recommend the hostel to any traveller. There's a hot tub and a nice outside area. There is something going... More
