The place is really good. The price is far enough and cheapest than other, such as YHA and Base. The rooms are warm and the bathrooms are clean. What gives charm to the place is the painting, with the engravings. The kitchen closes a bit early, at 9:30 pm and closes for a time at noon, in a very inconvenient time.... More

I have to say that I could not really enjoy my stay at Cactus Jack. There were some people who were kind of living there and they had a lot of really loud arguments in the courtyard at inappropriate times (e.g. at 7 in the morning and as the walls are thin, you can here EVERY SINGLE WORD). The rooms... More

Very friendly reception and friendly staff who are always up for a chat. Rooms were alright. Dorms had a locker to store your bags although there is only one main power socket for everyone in the 8-bed dorm. I was on the top bunk which made a bit of noise whenever I move but the annoying thing was the ceiling... More

I chose this hostel originally because it was the cheapest one I could find and I was so glad I did because I had a great experience there. I stayed for a week and met some cool people, and was delighted by the friendly staff. The hot pool is great and the showers are nice and warm. The beds are... More

I couldn't believe this was a tripadvisor backpacker's. The kitchen is poorly (!) equipped, the bathrooms are like festival bathroom stalls, the showers are dark and cold and without any place to put you clothes (witch you will have to bring with you into the stall, since the bathrooms are in the corridor). The kitchen smells weird and the place... More

Dirty and disgusting + unbelievably rude owner who literally steal your 20$ key deposit if you are a few minute late for the 10am check out! Seriously! But well done because when you arrive you write all your information on a paper (as for almost all backpackers in NZ) and you signed it. And there is a note specifying that... More

I stayed here for four nights and though my first impression wasn't the best, it improved once I realised what a friendly and fun hostel this is. The hostel is Mexican themed with colourful murals and signs inside and out - really wonderful and artistically rendered. The staff and guests were generally very friendly and good company making this a... More

The Cactus Jack in Rotorua is a very charming hostel with a nice South American atmosphere, because as you walk by you see a lovely front yard filled with a lot cactuses (which isn’t the only thing which gives you the feeling of South America). We were astonished by the friendly owner called Paul, who gave us free beer and... More

we booked 2 double rooms at $75 a night. One had a tv and the other one didnt which i thought was strange. Especially for what we paid. The rooms were so tiny and dirty. The shower was dirty and had no pressure what so ever, it was like taking a shower in the rain. The room was so hot... More

I guess there ae times when a guest is angry and posts a bad review First I am sorry our place did not meet all your expectations. Second If my rooms are dirty why would you not ask us to clean them and further why would you put up with dirty rooms fo two nights? I cannot figure that one... More
