We had a lovely night at the Duxton. The room was great, we were upgraded on arrival which was a fantastic. Staff were friendly. The meal that we had booked as part of the package was excellent, the view over the lake very pretty, the open fire in the restaurant welcoming, breakfast the follwoing morning also part of the package... more

Do not stay here if you want to sleep. The rooms are ok food overpriced view very pretty too. However the room was so so noisy you could not sleep. I tried calling to get help a midnight and no one answered I went to reception and the night manager was ASLEEP. I was moved to another room which was... more

I only stayed for 1 night here but I thought it was beautifully situated in between lakes Rotorua and Rotoiti. The garden view room was amazing, enormous bed and I loved the flow with the bathroom. The fact they have a plunger in full view and charge for $4 for plunger coffee was a bit mean but amenities were nice.... more

We did not stay at the Duxton but dined there one evening and I can safely say I have never had such poor service. The person that greeted us was grumpy - and we had to wait 40 mins before we were even offered a drink. At one point the service was so bad that my husband had to get... more

Stayed one night recently at the Duxton, purchasing a 'Romeo and Juliet' package. This was around the $450 NZ value, so not cheap. This included Dinner, Breakfast and a welcoming bottle of Champagne and chocolates. The hotel is tired and needs a thorough dry cleaning. The musty smell was overpowering throughout the hotel. The service as poor. The bar was... more

My girlfriend and I stayed in a garden view room and had an enjoyable stay at the hotel. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated. The staff while not the happiest of people were still helpful and took interest in our activities. We did not use the dinning room for dinner or breakfast so cannot really offer an opinion, but... more

We booked three nights in a double room, Bed & Breakfast for NZ$190.00 per night through Wotif.com. The driveway into the hotel was unimpressive but any concerns were quickly forgotten when we went inside the hotel. Our room was a superior, upstairs Lake View Room with doors opening onto a small viewing platform. The room was a modest size but... more

We stayed in Duxton Hotel for one night and have no intention to visit it again or to recommend it to anyone. The location is magnificent, the setting is beautiful! But the hotel itself must be called the “seriously overpriced motel”. Rooms are small, no air conditioner, a lot of sand flies, the walls are quite thin and guests with... more

It was certainly worth the extra drive away from Rotorua to experience the peace and tranquility of the Duxton, particularly as we got an amazing, last minute rate from WotIf. The hotel didn't look anything special when we approached but once inside, it was very classy. The rooms have been beautifully refurbished and it oozes character. We took our cocktails... more

We stayed at the Duxton hotel in July 2007 for two nights. The Duxton is about 10 minutes from the heart of Rotorua and the escape from the sulfur smell surrounding Rotorua made this an excellent choice. We booked a lakeview room, which offered gorgeous sunrise views and plenty of birdsong. The breakfasts, which came "free" with our Expedia booking... more
