Stayed two nights here in late September and realized I had not posted our thoughts about our stay at the Solitaire Lodge. It’s a spectacular setting on a narrow spit of land jutting into Lake Tarawera, just outside of Rotorua. This was our first stop on week long trip through the North Island. We were shown to a wonderful suite... More

Drive through the gates and you have access to many wonderful premium experiences which I found is the key to this lodge. Wonderful service and food. Many opportunities to tick off items on your bucket list from this location. Rooms with stunning views of the lake. The pristine lake is a very special natural resource to which the lodge provides... We had a lovely overnight stay at this special place recently, and had a truly memorable experience. We were looked after by attentive hosts Wayne and Ingrid, and enjoyed a fabulous 5 course dinner with matching wines. We appreciated the lodge's setting, surrounded by native bush on an arm of the lake, and were very sorry to be leaving so... More

After all the positive reports on tripadvisor and the likes, we were going to stay at Solitaire for 2 nights last week. The couple who run the place a lovely people but their lodge has seen it's best days many moons ago. It has the touch of a bed and breakfast but at the cost of an upmarket lodge. The... More

We welcome and appreciate all reviews and comments given during our 6 years of management. We believe this review is incomplete, - hence our response. Solitaire Lodge operates a Full Board Tariff (accommodation, all meals,, complimentary mini-bar etc.). It employs senior skilled chefs as well as other staff and has never operated as a bed and breakfast.. As the guests... More

Solitaire Lodge is a dreamy sort of place: the rooms are quite divine, the amenities first class, the staff delightful, welcoming and fun. We enjoyed our room with it's outdoor bathtub - quirky, but nice - for it's intelligent layout, very comfortable bed, nicely arranged bath; very soothing and relaxing. Graham was wonderful and informative; thoughtful, professional and has great... More

Solitaire Lodge truly has it all! Fantastic location, superb attentive service, endless tailor made activities (fishing, boating, swimming, thermal springs ), gourmet food, gorgeous accommodation and, because Solitaire only has 10 rooms, you will never feel part of a crowd. The private location on Lake Tarawera absolutely cant be beat! Wayne and Indrid are wonderful lodgekeepers and hosts. Our room... More

We stayed here for two days at the end of an active 3+ week holiday in NZ, South and North islands. As a place to relax and soak up the scenery, tranquility, excellent food and friendly atmosphere, Solitaire would take some beating. Solitaire Lodge is an up market facility and is expensive. However meals and most bar service is included... More

We arrived here exhausted after driving most of the South Island and staying just 2 nights at each spot on our itinerary. This place was heaven and just what we needed. We were warmly greeted by the owner who clearly takes pride in the Lodge. The rooms take full advantage of the peaceful lakefront location with floor to ceiling unobstructed... More

This lodge really is a Leading Small Hotel of the World (unlike others we have stayed). It was luxurious in every way from the spacious room, with its' memorable views to the fantastic food, wine and our welcoming and ever helpful hosts; Wayne, Ingrid, Graham and Sarah. Graham's knowledge and enthusiasm of and for New Zealand wines was a key... More

We had a lovely stay at Solitaire. The rooms are gorgeous with nice windows and balconies overlooking the lake. The bed and bath are prefect. The room is well stocked with fruit, cookies, candy, wine beer and more all included. Graham was a great source of information and Wayne and Ingrid were great hosts. The evening drinks and canapés were... More
