My typical trout fishing experiences would not be much to write home about and if successful the fare would be a simple smoked trout in white bread on the steps of a back country hut. This was something completely different from Solitaire. Not only is the level of service excellent but Wayne and Ingrid and their staff are personable but... More

Superb location, impeccable hospitality and sublime cuisine make “Solitaire Lodge” a true gem in the crown of New Zealand luxury accommodation. My suite was very comfortable. It had all the necessities of the luxury accommodation and a few extras (freshly baked cookies and gourmet tea anyone?). The room had magnificent views at the lake Tarawera. I could easily spend the... More

We stayed at Solitaire to celebrate our wedding anniversary (yes, our 50th!). Our hosts, Wayne and Ingrid, were so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. In fact, all the staff were really pleasant and helpful. Our room (executive suite) was very comfortable, with a quirky bath out on the balcony - really fun to sit in, watching the sublime... More

This was a wonderful stay from start to finish. Wayne and Ingrid welcomed us like old friends, even though it was our first time there. Unfortunately we only stayed one night. We would both liked to have stayed a lot longer. The peace and tranquility was second to none. It's a place where you can truly unwind and know that... More

We spent two nights at Solitaire Lodge recently and the experience was just perfect. We could not have been made more welcome by Wayne, Ingrid, Graham and staff. Our room – the Solitaire Suite – had breathtaking views, along with everything else you might ever want, especially the fantastic bath to sink into! On our first night, after a fantastic... More

We were in Solitaire lodge during Christmas time, and had an amazing time with great quality service from the owners and hosts Wayne and Ingrid. The food prepared by chefs David and Mirai was excellent each day (the lamb chops were to die for), and Graham was a perfect host for each dinner. This is not a cheap place but... More

Having stayed at many 5 and 6 star lodges and resorts around the world we did have high expectations for Solitaire. From the beautiful copper swans on the electric gates to the personal meet and greet by our host, Wayne we immediately felt reassured of our decision. Our well appointed suite with its outstanding view, the incredible, unpretentious meals and... More

we stayed here early September for 4 nights and we were the only guests so had the restaurant to ourselves. Lucky us as the chef catered for both our preferences. The hotel organised a personal helicopter flight to the volcano's and took us to a private hot springs at the end of the lake. We were really looked after from... More
