Decor dated but having a private jacuzzi really suited the kids. Accommodating friendly owners rolled in a bed for us on checking in due to unexpected arrival of cousins (although sheets on that bed had obviously not been changed due to fresh blood stains from a blood nose or something). Couldn't work out the Wifi. Didn't get to sort it... More

We booked 2N at Alpin but once inside our unit, decided to stay another night. Reception staff were very friendly on arrival with milk, bubbles for our private pool, wifi code and maps! The 40 units are all 1 level with easy back gate access to a peaceful lawn area with pool, trampoline, swings etc. The pool was being repaired... More

We had the misfortune of staying here for one night - not sure how they wrangle a 4 start rating but we were vey disappointed. Very dark rooms and furniture and fittings were very tired. One chair in our unit was held together with duct tape - see photos. Also the communal pool was very tired and in need of... More

Run down motel photos on website are out of date and don't resemble the crumbled tiles around hot tubs outside. The pool area shabby. Rooms basic they just about get away with staying open... But cheap if that's ok with you....also if you are from out of town be prepared to smell the yucky stink bomb like volcanic sulphur in... More

We first stayed here (when it was called the Puhi Nui) 31 years ago! Although we've been back to Rotorua since, this was our first experience of self-catering, and the motel was well chosen. All the units, which are compact but well designed, have their own plunge pools in a private courtyard to enable guests to sample the hot springs.... More

The owners have made a big effort to make the outside of these motel units look nice with hanging baskets. The pool could do with a new liner but plenty of comfortable seats and loungers available. The pool was quiet during the day but in the evening a couple of families were using it (and regularly banging the pool area... More

After staying at ascot lodge in Hamilton, we were very wary of our next booking, as it was my first trip to New Zealand, we stayed in unit 31, which accommodated 4 people in January 2014, a self contained unit with a tv for the kids and a tv for the mum and dad, the beds were excellent, and at... It's located a little bit out of the centre (20 minutes walk and 30 to the beach). But only 200 meters from the living Maori village. Very friendly and good service. The rooms are wonderful, there is also a warm water swimming pool.

Rotorua, Boxing Day, Height of the Season, a fully self contained, spacious suite with separate lounge and bedroom plus a private mineral pool off the bedroom, free wi-fi allocation and close to all amenities. The swimming pool is heated to 30 degrees for all year round enjoyment, the rooms are pleasantly decorated and comfortable. All this for $135 inclusive for... More

The room layout was perfect for us - lounge with two divan beds and a kitchenette, then a small foyer area with the bathroom off it, then a double bedroom (with a second TV), and outside your private hot pool. All very clean and comfortable. There also is a warm swimming pool (which I loved) and a grassed area with... More
