Paihia Beach Resort & Spa overlooks Paihia's most picturesque beach and is within walking distance of Paihia Wharf, the departure point to discover the wonderful Bay of Islands. Located within the Hotel is the chic poolside and ocean view restaurant offering only the finest culinary experience. Visit the hotel's award-winning spa, La Spa Naturale, offering first class spa treatments with a uniquely New Zealand flavour.
We stayed for five nights at the end of February. We had a room on the third floor which was spacious and spotlessly clean and overlooking the pool and the sea. The pool was heated so warm enough to bask in. The staff were friendly and helpful. We parked out at the side of the hotel which was easy and convenient. A great short break

Such a disappointing hotel. If you read the reviews and exclude the fabulous spa and those relating to food, you will see many people are saying the same thing!! The place urgently needs refurbishment. There is no manager... that we could find... staff are fed up, cutting corners and uninterested in service, or more importantly, in basic cleanliness. It is more a 2 star but NOT by any stretch of the imagination a 5 star hotel. The only 5 star bit is the price. We were paying 369 a night (NZ) without breakfast, it felt a rip-off. As the owners have clearly lost interest in the place and now seem to be after extracting cash. They have sold off the carpark, so it very hard to drive in to the site. The reception staff leave their door open so you can not drive through without getting out of the car to shut their door. Then you discover there is no parking in the garage as the staff are parked there, including the disabled bay! You have to block the road past the hotel to unload, no one comes to help. Then you have to find a car space back on the road to park in. The first impression of reception and the entrance to the hotel, says it all....dirty and uncared for. The rooms though spacious, are not sound insulated, so you can hear the people above you walking on the wooden floor. You can also hear the next door neighbours. The rooms are dirty, the aircon did not work, the toilet did not flush properly, the floor was dirty, and cobwebs with spiders were everywhere. The crockery was also dirty. The bathroom desperately needs a refurb and the tiles are dirty and mouldy. The tables, chairs and units are damaged, stained and marked. The outside pool furniture is dirty and has no cushions. The pool itself is shabby and dirty. The sun shades are covered in mould. The pool does not get cleaned until mid day...if you are lucky. I had to find the pool net and clean it myself two days running...all this and pay 369 a night! The food offered is breakfast and dinner and it looks ok and tastes ok but the kitchen is dirty and the chef has what looks like a car cleaning cloth attached to his waste! The maintenance man has not be around to blow the surfaces for 3 days so there is plant debris on the stairs which is particularly dangerous as this is the fire exit route. The fire exit doors on all 3 floors are left propped open and are used for access by the cleaners and the visitors but tgey are not shut at night which is scary. There is a discarded animal bone on the grille on the stairs, which has been there for 4 days now. The only silver lining is the fantastic spa where Demelza and Amitty keep everything spotless and offer true relaxation at the hands of talented therapists. The view is nice and the position near the beach is also pleasant but the road is busy and runs beside the hotel. To conclude, this hotel needs serious investment and some real cleaning as well as owners and staff who care and understand real " service".…

Based upon prior reviews, I was worried. However, my experience was quite pleasant. I was in the 4th floor and had a great room. Loved what felt like a completely private balcony (you could sometimes hear your neighbors but you couldn’t see a soul in a walk naked kind of way). Could some things be refurbished? Yes. But it has a beachy feel and what you need is here. Part if me wishes it was closer to the town, but its a 10 min walk and across the street from an awesome beach. Prefer that honestly. The free laundry machines are a nice bonus. I will miss this place as I could get used to the view. The entrance thing is a bit weird and what will eventually be built next door?

We spent two nights at Paihia Beach Resort and Hotel. This is a five-star hotel and it was in fair to good condition. The reception desk is staffed between 8am to 9pm. Staff were very helpful. When we got there it was raining and the reception staff had run out of umbrellas. A suggestion, if you place at least one umbrella in each room as this seems to be fair. A bonus was they had a self laundry room that was complimentary for the guest. The hallways and lift area smelt stuffy but the rooms were quite clean. The staff at reception were very helpful and knowledgeable. The hotel is in close proximity to a local supermarket which was about a 10 minute walk and it was about 8 minute walk to the wharf and the restaurants. Transport: We used Kerikeri Taxis from the airport to the hotel. Weather: We were in Paihia in early December but temperatures were dropping to 15°C at night and during the day it goes up to 21°C. The locals have told us that summer in New Zealand starts in late January and temperatures do not go over 30°C.…

For the price tag this apartment was not of acceptable quality. Cabinets worn and stained, furniture broken and doors and drawers hanging at odd angles. Parking was basically on the street as insufficient parks and those were for small cars only. The building was dirty and looking at the great view could be so much better if not adorned by black dirt and mold on the structure above the deck below. Maintenance should be a priority given the price charged, have seen better 3 star motels. Check in is at 3pm and cleaners still with cupboards open and trolleys going as guests arriving… What have they been doing since 10.00am check out? Seems like some good management is needed.

The entrance is not signed post, but one the empty section next door, be aware there is not enough parking for the guests on site. The restaurant was closed for evening meals , which was very disapointing as that was the main reason we stayed. The room interior was very grubby .

I enjoyed this hotel in the Winter and I can only imagine it during the Summer. Wow! Part of me doesn't want to the write such a good review so others will snatch it up. But what can I say? It was great. Room, cozy. Staff, accommodating. Pools, enjoyable but hot and cool. Restaurant, delicious. One story to share: The restaurant opened at 7:00a when I stayed there. One morning, I joined a tour bus and had scheduled a 7:25a pick up from the hotel. I called the front desk the evening before and the receptionist was able to take my order then to give to the chef so my breakfast would be ready right at 7:00a so I could eat before the tour. The following morning, I walked down at 7:00a and my food was on the table a minute later. Amazing! I ate a little quickly I admit but I finished satisfied in time for the tour bus to scoop me up. Great hospitality if you ask me!…

This was supposed to be our treat hotel at the start of a 6 week NZ trip however it is need of a massive refurbishment programme and bears no relation to the photos on the website. If you are travelling with Trailfinders I suggest you ask for a different hotel, they charge an eye watering amount to stay here, we stayed for 1 night out of our booked 4 and that’s only because we couldn’t find anywhere else for our first night. I’ve never left a 1 star review for anywhere but sadly it’s deserved for this hotel, the only saving graces were that the staff tried their best and the breakfast was surprisingly good despite being a 1 menu 1 drink only option.

A lovely property that has not been maintained and refreshed - for a 5 star property attracting $500 / night not including breakfast it is clearly way too pricy for what it is and the photographs on the website do not reflect the actual condition of the property. That said we loved the breakfast and feel of The Glasshouse restaurant which is part of the property. Housekeeping was poor and the room was not serviced well in spite of providing feedback. We were also disappointed that in spite of booking almost a year ahead and requesting a room with a view we got what was probably the worst room ~ avoid rooms 107 and 108! An investment to refresh and renovate the property and improve housekeeping will make it a great place to stay in.
