We only stayed one night here but it was one of the best hostels we stayed at during our holiday. The place is small enough that fellow travellers needs to respect one another and the owner does a great job of making sure the place is kept clean (no free breakast if she has to clean up anyone's dishes) The... I got the chance to stay here for two weeks while in Paihia, and I also got a chance to WWOOF. Rose (the owner) is lovely, as well as her dogs and all the people who pass through. It's a quiet place off of the main strip of hostels, but still close enough to get anywhere you need. Breakfast, wifi,... More

This is a great little hostel in Paihia. Definitely worth a stay if you're passing by. The staff were helpful and friendly, as well as the other people staying at the hostel. It has a lovely homely feel, with a cosy lounge and outdoor seating, as well as some very modern bathrooms. All this is just a 5 minutes walk... More

Free WiFi, clean bathrooms, fairly clean kitchen. Beds are hard and owner very rude and unfriendly! We called ahead to inquire about availability, and we're asked when we would arrive. After arriving we had to wait on owner for 3 hours! After checking out we wanted to stay in the courtyard a bit but were kicked out by the owner!

The Pickled Parrot is a nice hostel 5 minutes out of Paihia center. They offer you rooms from a single to a 6 bed dorm. The hostel is always clean. There is free wifi, breakfast (if kitchen and lounge tidy), free bikes, free bbq to use, free fishing rods and tennis rackets. Rose the host is a very nice person... More

Though they have small rooms it feels like living in the pickled parrot with a family. Every morning you get free breakfast (toast, butter, jam, cereals, milk) and its a very nice place to meet new friends.

Great stay at the pickled parrot. Lovely lady, unlimited free wifi, comfortable room and a good shower. Car parking and in a quiet spot, one of the best places we have stayed. Also, because it was winter our room was only $60 for a double which is probably the best value we have experienced.

I didn't like the atmosphere in the hostel. The rooms are tiny and I didn't like the bathrooms. The staff was never around, you have to wait quite long. Also, it is very disorganized. The only good things about the hostel: free wifi and free breakfast.

Located a short walk away from the town centre, it features an extremely relaxing atmosphere while being close to all essentials . Comfortable beds , clean and well equipped kitchen , lovely common area and a beautiful garden are some of the facilities I enjoyed while staying here. The free breakfast is an added benefit. Rose , the owner is... More
