McHardy lodge is a unique cross between a small boutique hotel and a B & B. Yvonne creates just the right ambience so that one feels very welcome yet at the same time one can be a private as one wishes. We are not big B & B people, preferring the hotel experience. However, we were delighted stay three days... More

this was a very nice place to stay in Napier! Beautiful old house (survived the 1923 earthquake), very beautifully maintained. The location was great too (if a little hard to find - i'm glad we got there during day time....), and walking distance from warfs restaurants. More

It was a pleasure to have you both to stay. We are indeed close to all the best restaurants in Ahurriri and Napier town and we hope the directions to the Lodge on our web site help you to find us. To be so close and yet away from the main roads and traffic routes does mean negotiating a few... More

On our 2 week vacation on North Island, the only place out of the 7 accommodation that was booked for 3 nights was McHardy Lodge and now we know why! We loved the restored Lodge, rooms delightful and comfortable. The breakfasts in the bright kitchen were deliciously prepared by Yvonne. Also, Yvonne was very helpful with assisting us as to... More

Yvonne Johnstone, host and owner has created a haven here in Napier. My husband and I enjoyed 2 nights here in Feb 2012. Our room was simply beautiful. McHardy Lodge is a dream of a house, a restored 1890's residence with exquisite furnishings, it is also in a great location. Yvonne is an excellent host, helpful and quite charming. Breakfasts... We stayed at McHardy Lodge during an extensive driving trip through New Zealand. The old house was wonderfully restored & the rooms were gorgeous. Breakfast would almost get you to an early dinner in a lovely setting overlooking the bay. Our host Yvonne was very helpful & very accommodating to some personal needs. Lovely, restful spot after a day of... More

This was our fifteenth hotel/B&B on a ten week tour of Australia and New Zealand and it was the best of some fabulous B&Bs. The term B&B underrates this great little hotel. Yvonne the owner was on hand to ensure that our stay was perfect and perfect it was. The house has been sensitively restored with all modern amenities. It... More

My wife and I enjoyed our six days stay at McHardy Lodge so much so we have booked ourselves for next year's Art Deco festival. The room was very comfortable. The breakfast was way too much for us, but we noticed some of the guests really got stuck into it. Yvonne is a delightfull hostess. More

It was a delight having you to stay at the Lodge -you both really entered into the spirit of the Art Deco long weekend with your lovely outfits. As you discovered Napier is such a fun place to be each February when the whole town ( and hundreds of tourists!) get dressed up and enjoy the many events, concerts, live... More

We spent our wedding weekend at McHardy Lodge this February 2012. It is one of the most memorable places you could ever stay at. We loved every second we were there. We stayed in Napier as part of our travels through North Island late last year and McHardy Lodge was the best place we stayed – it has it all – a beautiful old colonial style home with beautiful rooms and facilities – we loved the billiard room with the massive log fire. The old maternity hospital, converted but not altered, colonial in appearance with verandahs about and such a fun place to stay. The rooms can only be said to be spacious and are superbly fitted out and what with a library and billiard room (full size ) ,after you have spent a long time over breakfast gazing over Hawkes Bay from...
