We phoned to book at 4.30pm, not a problem said Jody, it will take to 2 1/2 hours drive from Gisborne, she let the kitchen know so we were able to arrive, settle in our room & head to the restaurant & enjoy a drink at the bar & leisurely scrumptious meal, before heading back to our comfortable room. Nothing... More

Loved this place. My only negative comment is that I was sad not to be able to dine in the restaurant, since there appeared to be no provision for gluten free dining on the menu displayed in the window. Since I have Coeliac Disease I did not wish to take the risk. Because this place is on the tourist route,... More

Hicks bay motel is a perfect place to break your trip around east cape. It is an old fashioned hotel with everything you need , clean and with great views. As another reviewer said book a room with a balcony to make the mist of your stay.

As many other reviewers attest, the views from the HBML are beautiful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The accommodation is basic and dated. I had dinner and breakfast at the motel - both meals were good. Given the fairly isolated location, I was grateful to have somewhere to have a cooked meal, and enjoy the view. Breakfast staff... The summer has been very good weather, with a nice high over the East Cape one is able to see the beauty at it best. Thank you for staying with us. More

When we drove in I thought the place looked like a school, the units looked like classrooms to me. The 1960s decor added to the charm of our unit which also had stunning views. We did not dine in the restaurant after reading Trip Advisor reviews, we were only staying for one night so brought food to cook with us.... More

The motel is in a wonderful position. The units overlooking the bay looked very appealing but our unit was tired and needed modernisation. The shower was weak and the bathroom very much in need of an upgrade. The restaurant was adequate - the food good but limited menu. The staff (we only dealt with one young lady) was very helpful... We stayed here with visitors from England 10th Feb and we were all pleasantly surprised. The old charm of the place, beautiful views and hospitality was greatly appreciated after a long journey. The meal was good and the accomodation very comfortable. Will bring other visitors here again Thankyou and the staff.

Good accommodation at the "End of the World". There is a restaurant for a breakfast and dinner. At reception is also shop with usualy food and choise of beers. We was only one night there, but when we go here next time - we will stay longer (for nice beaches, good accessories of accomodation etc.) Hicks bay Motel is only... More

My partner and I had driven from Auckland around the East Coast. Stopping at Hicks Bay Motel was so much a part of the experience - in lots of ways the highlight. The motel reminded me of something out of Alfred Hitchcock's movie Phsyco. I mean that in a good way! The motel units are all in rows. They are... More

My wife and I checked in at 14.00 and were met by friendly staff at this Butlins style Chalet Timber dated Huts. Dinner was superb but a bit pricey for Bar type meals. Lots of outside noise as Hells Angels happened to be stopping over at the same time as we were.. There is no alternative accommodation in this remote... More
