Yes, this is an old bit of kiwiana, but,the room was spotless and all facilities offered worked. There was a small tv in the room no phone or wifi and no cellphone coverage... Was just great to disconnect for a bit. Wifi is available in the bar. The staff were really friendly and chatty and our evening meal was beautifully... More

Hicks Bay Motel is situated on the most beautiful coastline and with glorious views across the bay. This is about all one can say about this motel. The rooms were clean but old fashioned and very overpriced and definitely not worth the money. The bar and dining room were badly in need of a complete refurbishment. The food was sub... More

It was such a relief to get to Hicks Bay Motel as it had poured torrentially all day and the roads were no place to be. The staff were friendly and helpful and we were just pleased to get inside our snug room and look out at the pouring rain and wind. I'm a little confused with some previous reviews... More

Room was still not ready at 3 pm, then they gave us the wrong room key for another unit.another couple were in the same predicament.Rooms very dated, not worth the price. You would be better off driving past ,service poor.

Clean and tidy with a swimming pool and bush track down to beach below. What made this memorable was the onsite restaurant. It was like stepping back in time although the wind choice was great. Clearly the Cook had not heard of herbs as a garnish, on food anyway as the scallops came with a dollop of cream on top.... More

Wasnt quite sure what to expect from previous reviews so my advice would be to go with an open mind and definitely worth the stay for the good nights sleep in the most luxuriously comfortable bed I have slept in. It is definitely like something from a time-warp with the mid-century furniture (Formica) and kiwi No.8-wire ingenuity with regards to... More

Hicks Bay Lodge is a one-off! Built 50 years ago on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, it is still in original condition. But that doesn't deflect from the extraordinary scenery, native bush, nearby bays and beaches. It is surely one of the most idyllic spots in the North Island and certainly well worth the long windy drive to get... More

We booked into a one bedroom (3 people) for a recent family event which was held locally. For the cost of the room we thought it was very reasonable, we had the bedroom, our daugher had the lounge. Our last minute cancellation of another room for two other family members was received with no drama & the friendly staff didn't... More

This place is a "blast from the past", but partially modernised and spotlessly clean, with abundant linen & comfortable bed. If you want The Ritz or the latest mod-cons then stay in a city somewhere and miss the spectacular views, abundant bird life (I slept through an amazing dawn chorus my wife tells me), remote location, and friendly hosts. The... More

There was no TV's in the rooms - probably not replaced with the digital changeover as the cable was still laying on the floor. The wait staff and cleaning staff were always happy to help There is a 20 - 30 minute walk down the cliff to the nearest beach. At the restaurant my wife ordered the $20 vegetable platter... More
