The Emerald Hotel provided me with a beautiful air-conditioned room. However I was disappointed at the sleeping arrangements as I had asked specifically for beds that would suit my purpose. The room was serviced daily, but poorly. Despite exchanging friendly conversation with the lovely staff their room service did not reach what I expected from a 4+ star hotel. The... more

This should be a 5 Star Hotel. The biggest rooms i have ever been in. Enormous bathroom that you could swing a horse in. ONly fault is the TV is far too small for the size of the room. There are not many hotels that i would say i would definetely return to, but there is no way that i... more

I recently had the great pleasure of staying in the Emerald Hotel Gisborne. As a local I was looking for somewhere nice to celebrate a romantic weekend with my wife. We had contimplated venturing out of town as we didnt believe Gisborne could offer us a truly memorable experience - but of course my darling wife had other ideas and... more

We had booked in for one night but on seeing our suite decided to stay an extra night. It was nice to get some space after a few small rooms. This seemed like a good sized apartment..Central location, decent restaurant. Only criticism was the hallways were quite dark, though very wide. more

I spent approximately 20 minutes to find the place. When I mentioned this to the staff member at reception, she said she was sorry but the fact that they had moved in the new premises 3 months prior and had not put up the signage (very poor excuse). I would have thought that the first thing would have been to... more

Out of ten places in New Zealand, this was the only place where the management felt American, that is, we're going to gouge you for as much as we can. Having paid months in advance, we were given the worst room in the place -- the window opened onto the roof. We switched rooms, at no charge according to the... more

This is a very good hotel. Although it's a bit hard to find your way around the rooms are excellent. My only gripe would be that the bedroom did not have a TV in it and the shower head kept falling off. I would stay here again. more

We loved our room it was spacious with a modern décor. There was a king bed in a large separate bedroom and another king bed in the sitting area. We also had a large balcony over looking the pool area. The balcony had a table that comfortably sits six. We did have some difficulty finding the hotel and may still... more

We stayed here for a night in October 2008 as part of a New Zealand group tour. It was without doubt the best hotel we stayed in during a 22 day tour of the North and South Islands. It didn’t look that promising when we arrived, but when we opened the bedroom door we were astonished by how large the... more

For a business trip in Gisborne, I choose the Emerald Hotel. I had seen the hotel before but it was under construction. The rooms are huge, actually, they are two rooms. The main bedroom plus a sitting area (in my case) facing the pool. The bathroom is also enormous. I travel quite a bit and I must say, these rooms... more
