After travelling from Rotorua and arriving at the Surf City Lodge at 11.30pm, we were met by Barry who dispite the late hour still had a smile on his face. My partner and I found the lodge to be a warm, comfortable, beautifully and lovingly restored home with lots of original features. Barry, our host made our stay in Gisbourne... More

We arrived at Surf City to a warm welcome from Barry after a long day of driving in overcast conditions. Barry and Ros invited us to join them for dinner at their local Fishing Club, and we spent the evening in their delightful company. Next morning we enjoyed a delicious continental breajfast. When we are next in town I'll certainly... More

Had a great stay with Barry and Ros. We were treated just like one of the family. Had a wonderful stay and Barry even invited us down to his Fishing Club for Dinner. The man is a marvel in the kitchen, so be prepared to add a couple of pounds, but good ones... Will definitely be back to stay again... More

Barry & Ros' warm hospitality is an awesome experience not to mention the big breakfast that'll keep you going for the day. They had me invited on a dinner which was again another very pleasant experience w/c I appreciated a lot. Location is just perfect from the port I was working on. Now I know where to stay when I... Barry is an excellent Host, goes the extra mile in serving excellent meals. We had pan fried fresh fish in a cream caper sauce for breakfast one morning, and scrambled eggs with spinach the other morning we stayed. Top Notch. Room was clean and tidy. Peter Clark.

Excellent food and VERY reasonably priced, I may add. Stayed out in the Reef room and very comfortable and quiet. They don't call this place a bed and breakfast for nothing. Big Breakfast was better than other places I stayed that offered breakfast. Great atmosphere, loved seeing the cat that looked just like mine, made the trip. Barry and Ros... More

Barry and Ros run a fantastic business which is affordable and well worth the money spent. I felt that I got much more the cost of my stay. Breakfast was fantastic and could keep you satisfied for much of the day. Service was friendly and professional. The hosts go out of their way to assist and serve you. Will I... More

Pleasant company, wonderful food and a comfy room makes working away from home worthwhile. Business means I travel alot and always look forward to staying with Barry and Ros. The friendly atmosphere, pristine and tidy rooms, plus Barrys superb cooking skills have spoilt me from wanting to stay anywhere else. Havn't found anywhere else in the country that compares. Stu Smith The hospitality that barry and Ros provided was outstanding. the friendly and personalized service was unsurpassed. The evening meals (3 course) are of top level restaurant quality and the breakfasts would beat any big brekkie I,ve had anywhere. Certainly didn,t need lunch that day. I particularly enjoyed the chats with Barry while enjoying his complimentary home brew.

Barry and Ros are the greatest hosts, top food, accomodation and conversation. Wouldn't consider staying anywhere else in Gizzy! Barry is a great chef creating a three course banquet every night and a hearty breakfast each morning. All customised to your taste and timings to suit
