Our room in the yha was one of the nicest we have stayed in for a while, spacious with comfy beds and plenty of natural light. The staff were lovely and we sat out on the deck to watch the famous gisborne sunrise.

The YHA Gisborne is located 10-min walk to city center, 5-min walk to modern strip of restaurants and bars (including Gisborne Wine Centre) and walking distance to Saturday Farmers Market. We have booked a single and a double room. Both were small, cold (23 degrees outside) smelled musty and had mould on the window-side of the curtains. Although the sheets... More

1 of the nicer YHA's I have come across. It's not too big so has a cosy atmosphere. Our room was a nice size with a sofa. There is a big kitchen, lounge with tv and outside seating area. There it's lots of area to park and it's reasonable close to town. Good value backpacker place.

Stayed one night in single bed room. Nice enough place to bed down - typical YHA hostel. Would happily stay again - no hassle. Easy walk to town, with dairy and shops close to hand. Hostel was fairly quiet when I stayed, which suited me fine.

The gentleman that works here is friendly and you can tell he likes to look after the place as he does an exceptional job of it. Picking up stray branches in the front yard, kitchen absolutely spotless, with more than enough utensils, you can tell every path way gets swept and the bathrooms are the cleanest I've seen in a... Had to stay in Gisborne as there was no way of getting from Whakatane to Wairoa by bus with doing so. Reviews and ratings were not encouraging for any of the backpackers in Gisborne and the YHA stood out as something reasonable. Stayed less than 12 hours and review is based on this short period. Room strayed in was a... More

I stayed for a night here whilst stopping through on a journey and it is one of the best hostels ive stayed in. The welcoming couple, Elise and Marshal where a good start. The room was good with a double bed and shower and toilet right next to it. The kitchen is big and had good facilities. The hostel itself... More

Stayed in twin bed private room - comfortable innersprung beds provided with sheets, pillows and duvets. Our room also had a couch and coffee table. Whilst this is an older house, the place is well maintained, warm and very clean. Facilities good, kitchen spacious. Staff friendly and very helpful. Thought there might be road noise at night, but hostel is... More

I had booked for 2 nights in this hotel but I finally stayed 4 nights. Elise and Marshall are very friendly and helpful. Big kitchen, living room. Very spacious and cosy room. 10 min walk to city centre and 15 min to Pack N' save.

We stayed here for two nights in a double room and it was quite nice for the two of us. It is quiet, has a nice common area, and is pretty walkable to most places you might like to visit. It is kept clean and people are friendly, and the price is good. Nothing spectacular but we would probably stay... More
