So you know, this hotel is an active brewery, bar and restaurant. The building is over 100 years old so you will be carrying your bag up stairs and it looks like it is 100 years old. I saw the price for this hotel and it's brewery feature and was very weary. It turned out to be one of our... More

If (like me) you are over the corporate hotel brands - try boutique B&B's or if you can find a good one - Pub Hotels - they're always well located. I found the Shakespeare in Auckland through a partner hotel that couldn't fit me in & I loved it !. No waiting in line for the clerk to check you... More

Stayed for two nights after arriving late one Wednesday night. Our flight was delayed and we were worried the place would be closed but it stays open till 4am!! Saying that we didn't get any noise from the bar in our room but it was mid week. You can however hear the traffic and there is a nightclub over the... More

Didn't stay there or eat there but just went for a beer (they brew their own) and found this a straighforward lively mixed company bar with a decent pint at a reasonable price and if you want it they're open til 4 am. It's just up the short hill from Queen Street and you can't miss the old English style... More

It's cheap and its a pub there is no lift and it is a long way to the top floor with cases as the first floor is also a bar so be prepared for a climb . The rooms are small ( or ours was) , but the location is good and central for walking around the city it is... More

A very old building...currently under construction. I missed the part about them having no lift and had two very large bags someone had to hump up and down for me. I tried to get one of them up and messed up my shoulder. My room was on the tippy top floor and it was pretty awful. No cover on the... More

We stayed at the Shakespeare for several days and were very pleased. The hotel itself is a bit older, but well maintained. The ground floor tavern was quite nice and the food/beers were better than we expected. Service throughout our stay was exceptional. Our only complaints were the number of stairs necessary to ascend to our top floor room (only... More

The city centre location of the Shakespeare is very good for access to many of the tourist spots of Auckland and only a short walk to the harbour. The staff in particularly are very friendly and always helpful when suggesting places to visit. The pub has it's own microbrewery so make sure you sample some of the varied brews when... More

I stayed in this hotel on arrival in nz and had a good experience ... however at end of trip stayed there on a Saturday (to facilitate getting to eden park for match) and barely got any sleep ... when the clubs let out around 3 -4am it was SO noisy in the street that even my trusty ear plugs... The first thing to pay attention to is that this is a tavern first, and a hotel second, so if you are expecting a proper hotel experience, you won't get it. Location wise, it is hard to fault. A few minutes walk from the ferry and bus terminal in one direction, a few minutes to the Sky City area in... More
