Went for the Budget Double Room with my wife. The room was bigger than we'd expected. Great location. A little off but close to crowded streets of central Auckland. As of May 2009, the construction of neighbour building is still going on, but it wasn't bothering us too much. For us, it was just like street noise during the daytime.... more

As always, i will preface this by saying that my husband and i are both medical students on a very low budget. City Lodge was a great place for the two of us. Our bed was comfortable and our room was clean. We stayed in a private double room with our own private bathroom & shower. The room also had... more

We stayed at the CIty Lodge for 3 nights and was good value for money and situated in good location for walking to the viaduct, ferries, shopping areas and parks. The kitchen was great for those wishing to save a few $$ by eating in with plenty of preparation areas etc. The rooms were on the small side and could... more

I stayed here for 3 nights in February 2009 with a friend in a twin ensuite room. The hotel is located within a 10 minute walk of the SKYCity Tower & InterCity bus stop. It's located on a quiet, tree -lined street lined with office and apartment buildings. There's a sandwich shop across the street but otherwise you'll need to... more

I stayed at City Lodge for a little over 3 weeks this month, and can attest to the great value this place represents. I did take a look at a few Backpackers' places in the area (including the YMCA, which is right next door) and for the price, this place IS IT. I really can't understand why anyone in their... more

Booked months in advance -arrived 10pm very tired, told no parking at all, had expensive gifts in vehicle, they couldn't care less. Had to find somewhere else at 11pm and they still charged me a full night. Never go there. more

This place is more like a hotel than a hostel but it has all the facilities for backpacker accommodation. Some of the reviews have mentioned small rooms - I have stayed in 4 star hotels with rooms of a similar size in Hong Kong so considering the cost and the location you really can't complain. Very clean and great view... more

We chose the City Lodge based on reviews on this website and also based on the fact that reviews for just about every other budget hotel in Auckland were terrible! The staff were incredibly friendly and the room was clean and comfortable. However, it was very small, which suited us fine, but might not be great for anybody with any... more

I wanted to spend a little more money and stay at another hotel, but my husband convinced me to stay here, and I am glad that we did. The hotel is basic, but clean, and has everything that one could possibly want. It's not a hostel, but the prices are low enough that there were plenty of backpackers, families, students,... more

On the whole this property was great for a few nights. Rooms and communual areas were sparkling clean, and the staff were organised and friendly. The bathrooms were brand new and the facilities in the double room we stayed in were good (kettle, fridge, TV). Only negatives would be that the hotel is on a noisy street by night with... more
