I travel a lot and am used to the anonymity of travel. So, when I arrived at Braemar and was met by hosts John and Mel, I was, admittedly, a bit taken aback. By the end of the I was sold! Business or pleasure, being able to connect with your hosts while you are travelling is actually quite nice. Great... More

John and his wife run a lovely B&B within easy reach of the city and the wharf, where there are wonderful restaurants, in Auckland. John is a fountain of information on New Zealand or any other topic too. It is a low key, comfortable house, reminiscent of old England or Ireland. Our room was spacious. There is a bathroom on... A basically furnished room (Norman's) No wardrobe Basic desk No TV (contrary to brochure) No Airconditioning But most importantly A SHARED Bathroom, about 10 meters away but on the same floor. The continental breakfast covered a range of cereals with Greek Yogurt and Fruit Salad. It was okay but no variety over three days. There was a very long wait... More

Terrific hosts. Friendly people. Helped me get an event ticket, arranged airport shuttle. Handsome breakfast. Fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, cooked breakfast with all trimmings. A beer when I returned from a hot afternoon of walking. Simple room. Shared bathroom across hall with claw-foot tub plus walk-in shower. Robes provided.

Thanks for the review. I was so glad to help you get to the Gillian Welch concert. My sound engineer at TV3 went too and said it was one of the best he's ever experienced. He's been to lots. Isn't the Civic Theatre venue wonderful? It was a pleasure having you with us. Bon voyage. More

We were fortunate enough to stay with son and family for a night at Braemar - found John and Mel excellent hosts whom nothing was too much trouble to attend to, very friendly and comfortable. If you are looking for a unique slice of Auckland history in a family environment old home, within walking distance to Queen Street - a... More

John and Mel made us feel very welcome, had lots of advice about things to see and do. Delicious, huge breakfasts in a very beautiful old house right in the center of the city, yet surprisingly quiet for the location. Comfortable beds, free (though slow & spotty) wi-fi. A comfy home away from home and very convenient if traveling with... More

Stayed just for the one night for a concert, was in the norman room. Owners go out of their way while you are there to help you with whatever you need. Shared bathroom with one other room, but there is an extra bathroom if occupied. Rooms and bathroom are very nice. Unique building only a few minutes walk from queens... More

Braemar B&B is superb. A little gem. Delightful Edwardian decor, friendly helpful host, very clean and comfortable, great breakfast, ticks all the boxes. Very convenient location within walking distance of everything in the CBD. I will certainly be recommending it to others.

John and Mel are lovely hosts who made us feel very welcome. A surprise to be welcomed with a bottle of wine and snacks - a nice touch. Braemar is a delight, a wonderful piece of history brought back to life with polished kauri everywhere and lovely period furniture. Considering you are very close to the CBD it was quiet... More
