Very good location, downtown, close to the bus station and queen street. Nice bar and very friendly and helpful staff Free and tasty meal in the evening Very, very noisy place, 24 hours loud music Very unclean, mold everywhere, bad atmosphere, no lounge very small and poorly-equipped kitchen - very uncomfortable Dirty Bathrooms No Wifi All in all: not recommended!

I stayed for two nights. Staff is friendly and helpfull. The free meal in the evenings was a bonus. There is no any secure space for keep the baggage. The hostel had a good location. It's a good place for stay with friends.

I had originally planned on staying in Aukland for only a week, but after meeting the staff and other guests of the hostel I have decided that I may spend a majority of my 10 months in New Zealand in this hostel. On a scale of hostels that I've stayed in this one is at the upper end. Between the... More

I would never stay at this hostel again. It's nearly put me off hostels in general for the following reasons that might apply to all travelers regardless of age/orientation/budget: 1. My room and the common room were filthy. I'm not a nancy, but unventilated multi-bunk rooms with mildewing towels and scattered empty tins of food beyond what any traveler should... More

We stayed at the fat camel nomads for night & really couldn't wait to leave. We booked based on our excellent experience in Wellington with the same company. We assumed the free meal upgrade would cost $2, however in Auckland it costs $8. The rooms were absolutely tiny, no room whatsoever for suitcases. Our room was packed and there were... More

Previously stayed in Nomads (next to it) so thought I'd see if Fat Camel was a bit different since I had a friend who said it had a better vibe. Very average, city-type hostel. Room a little bigger than the one in Nomads and each floor has their own small, communal areas which was great for hanging out and meeting... More

I stayed 2 nights in a 8-bed-room with a very uncomfortable mattress and no space for the luggage! The other 2 nights i stayed in a 6-bed-room with a slightly better mattress and enough space for the luggage. My roomcard worked four times not, such annoying! They have a room to Keep luggage for a couple of hours (maybe when... More

Spent one night at "the camel". Really really nice. Very friendly staff, clean, quiet, and cheap. Awesome bar with lots of fun activities and a free feed. Really easy to get to and from airport. Will definitely be staying there again.

I stayed here for a week.. The first time I'd ever been away from home and travelling on my own. When I arrived reception were very friendly however they just gave me my key and told me where to go.. I was not shown around so had no idea where the laundry facilities were for example. Once in my room... More

Stayed here for 2 weeks. Reception is super friendly and nice. There is also yummy snack meal every night. Location is good. What I didn't like about the place is the paper thin walls. You can hear the music downstairs every night and especially during the weekends. You can also hear people chatting outside at the common area. Basically you... More

Hi Jo, Thank you for taking the time to place feedback and we are stoked you enjoyed your time at the Fat Camel and the complimentary snack meal in the evenings. As our budget hostel and being located in the heart of the lively, trendy Britomart area it can sometimes be a little bit noisy in the weekends with everyone... More
