Stayed at DeBrett twice in December. First time it was a fairly small studio room, while the second time was a larger studio at the corner of high street and shortland street. Everything in the hotel is highly enjoyable - heavily designed guest rooms/restaurant/bars, friendly staff, great continental breakfast, pre-dinner drinks at the warm and beautiful drawing room, and great... Our first stop in New Zealand. Got in from the airport even before noon but they already had our room ready for us. What a relief after a 13-hour-flight from L.A. - a 2-hour-nap was what was needed before going out to explore this nice city. The girls at the reception were all VERY nice and helpful. A nice boutique-hotel... More

Positives: -The beds were particularly comfortable. -The design as a whole 'works' very well and looks stunning -Very spacious -Although the continental breakfast selection was limited, everything available was delicious and of very high standard. -The location is perfect to visit Auckland and there is a number of restaurants nearby. Negatives: -The hotel is built around a central atrium onto... More

My husband and I were looking forward to our stay here after watching a segment about it during our flight to Auckland. We arrived early in the morning after travelling through the night and it was the perfect first stop on our honeymoon. The rooms are really uniquely decorated ( my husband just described them as an ultra- modern finish... More

I've always been impressed by the quality of boutique hotels in NZ, and DeBrett is no exception. They can be pricey, yes, but in return you get excellent service and impressive rooms. I rarely see this in Australia. Of course, if you're after accommodation with facilities like a gym or a pool, this is not the right one. Location-wise, this... More

It was a hassle arriving in a rental car as the hotel is on one of the narrowest streets in the CBD (not the hotel's fault - the City Council should never have permitted parking on both sides of the street). However the frazzle was soon wafted away by the warm welcome at Reception and efficent valet parking. I had... More

We were shouted a night at debretts and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. The staff right down to the cleaners were helpful and vibrant. We had a lovely big room on the first floor with separate living and bedrooms. Plenty of seating and storage. The bathroom was lovely also. Agree the free continental buffet breakfast was fairly basic but nice. We... More

Our travel agent had booked a loft suite room which had a tiny seating area and a spiral staircase leading to a bedroom without a luggage rack or closet. We requested another room on one level which, fortunately, was available. The room, however, was chopped up and cramped. The entrance to the bathroom wasn't level with a 2 inch marble... More

This is a very stylish hotel but far too expensive for what it is. The hotel is in a great location – close to Queen Street and the waterfront. The rooms are super-stylish, very clean and the service from all staff was excellent. The hotel owners have worked wonders with this low-rise, older style building. However, the rooms and common...
