Joan McKirdy and her very polite and helpful staff assured our very enjoyable stay through their courteous, attentive service and excellent breakfasts. The House is very impressive with many antiques to enhance the large, comfortable rooms. While not in the city center, which we didn't want to be, it is well located with nearby shopping. We would recommend this place... more

Aachen House was the first place we stayed on our New Zealand trip. The house and gardens were beautiful and the room enormous and very comfortable. Breakfast was extremely tastly - scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They made suggestions for what to do and made dinner reservations at nice restaurants. My only complaint... more

This beautiful house isn’t just all looks. The service when you step inside is top-notch as well. From the moment we arrived, Joan and her staff were very attentive, helpful, and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable – yet seemed to also know when we wanted to be left alone. That’s a true art form. They... more

We had a wonderful time at the Aachen house. Our experience - our flight arrived early, hence we did too, we actually showed up at the Aachen house at 7:30 a.m., well ahead of the check-in time. We were treated extremely well. The staff greeted us, got us tea and snacks, provided us with a map of the area and... more

Aachen House was our first port of call when we landed in New Zealand. It was a beautiful property with a very traditional feel to it. The accommodation was of a very high standard and the service from the staff was first class. I have read previous reviews where some have mentioned the ‘colonial’ feel that it had – I... more

This is not a place for younger executive couples. It is probably ideal if you are still reminiscent of the Colonial era and an Anglophile over 60. The management is quite blatantly judgemental and as a trendier European couple we clearly didnt measure up to their expectations. We certainly felt the eye of disapproval and felt a little like we... more

We went to Aachen House on our honeymoon, and when we arrived we were very excited to be there. The room and breakfast were very nice, as others have described them. However, the owner was extremely rude and she and her staff actually went out of their way to make us feel unwelcome. We stayed there for three nights and... more

An absolutely fantastic place to stay!! A stunning property with delightful staff, amazing decor and the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. Joan and her team provide some of the best service I've experienced and provided excellent recommendations of things to do and see in Auckland (the nearby shops in Remuera are excellent). A++ more

After staying at Aachen House for two nights in May at the beginning of our NZ tour, we feel the previous review was very harsh and one-dimensional. Our stay in the Victoria Suite was the perfect start to our 3 week trip. Joan is the perfect host, and her staff are fantastic. Very professional and helpful, going out of their... more

We were woken up at 7.30 in the morning by the door bell, which rang numerous times as the people arriving for their "breakfast confernece" were let into the house. Seeing as they were using the breakfast room for their conference the people actually paying to stay in the house were given the 1st floor hallway to eat their breakfast.... more
