This is an older hotel--possibly the first of the major hotels in the area. As such, the rooms have renovated toilet/shower areas while the bedroom areas remain with the decor they originally had. This is heavy curtains and dark furniture. And, yes, there are scuff marks in places. This hotel will not appeal to people wanting a new hotel with... more

I spent a couple of nights here while attending a conference at Auckland University, which is very close by. The hotel is in a nice leafy area on the fringes of the CBD, good for wandering around and close enough to walk down to Queen Street or Britomart. My room was large with a comfortable bed and good linen, although... more

This is an old hotel, but the website listings state its rooms have been recently refurbished, so I was looking forward to staying. We chose Copthorne because of its location close to Vector Arena - it is close - just a short walk away. At first glance the room looked clean and tidy - but on closer inspection there were... more

Auckland's own 'Fawlty Towers'. First room, although booked well in advance, was freezing cold. Heater fan, despite having ostensibly 3 settings will only work on maximum, which sounds like world war 3 has begun! Second room, similar problem + no washbasin plug. No sleep possible until 3.45 a.m. when at last the noisy revelries from the room above subsided. Do... more

My sister and I stayed at this hotel for the Lady Gaga/PCD concert at Vector Arena. We chose the hotel because of its proximity to the arena and it was excellent - we could see the arena from our balcony, and there was a well-lit quick access path just 1 minute from the hotel. It was a quick walk to... more

Firstly this hotel has the smallest rooms i have ever seen! We had 2 double beds and they were about 20cm apart from each other and on the other side about 10 cm from the window. The hotels dated and old. Elevators are slow and furnishing pretty lousy. However the location is perfect for the Vector Arena which is the... more

Arriving into NZ at midnight for a stop over in Auckland (before heading to Waiheke Island), we booked this hotel as an alternative to staying in a non descript hotel at the airport - we should not have bothered. The hotel is clean but poorly maintained (scuffed room doors, run down elevator etc). It was cheap (booked through WOTIF), but... more

I stayed here for 2 nights. My room was very clean and tidy. The bathroom had a great shower with dual shower heads and a massaging option. Unfortunately the door to my room was difficult to open and close. I reported this to reception and I couldnt be bothered shifting rooms although the receptionist did offer, I had dinner on... more

Stayed for one night in a room on the fifth floor that had a single queen bed. Both the main room and the bathroom were on the small side but still quite workable. The room was reasonably furnished and the bed was comfortable but not fantastic which is about what I would expect from a hotel of this level (self... more

This hotel does not live up to the "Copthorne" name! Having stayed in other Copthorne hotels around the world, I expected a certain standard and this hotel failed to impress. The rooms were very small and within an hour of being in our room the toilet broke! We were eventually moved to another room (when I say we were moved....actually,... more
