I've stayed here several times over the past 5 years. Overall great place, memorable meal here of beautiful meal of fresh peas from their gardens and salmon. Accommodation needs updating and soon - a shower curtain has been ripped for over 3 years now! The one with the naked lady on it. Also TV and internet need updating I think.... More

Been to Leigh Sawmill cafe a few times, it's always been "the" place to get brunch if your in the area or driving through Leigh. However my perception of the cafe has changed over my last few visits. When the cafe is busy, normally any sunny day over a weekend, it's best to avoid. The cafe seemed understaffed, bathrooms was... More

I did not stay in the accommodation, only ate in the cafe on a busy Sunday lunchtime. Price is reasonable in terms of New Zealand and the quality was very good. Service was good considering how busy they were (always a good sign). The outside area was nice, especially seeing as it was such a lovely, sunny day outside. There... More

This place rocks. On weekends, the Sawmill features bands and the venue is superb for a great night dancing, dining and drinking. Come back in the morning to have a hangover-cure delicious breakfast. Attentive service in general. You won't regret going! I did not stay, but needed to tick the room box. Disregard that rating, please!

Came here as it seems to be the only place in the area, and we were anticipating it to be a tourist trap and over-priced. It was neither of these: there were kiwi accents aplenty, and the prices were very reasonable for the high qality of the food. Don't be put off by the 'quirky' decor (chainsaws and melancholic artwork,... More

We stayed in one of the large double rooms - the bathroom alone was nearly as big as some hotel rooms I've stayed in. Each room has a small terrace - the overall concept is really well conceived and it makes for a relaxing place to stay. The term "rustic" is used to distract the guest from the fact that... More

Very fishy Caesar salad - way too much anchovy!! The menu also seemed fairly limited. The staff were very lax, had to ask three times for water and twice for a high chair, by which time someone else had got. Overall not too impressive.

We actually spent the night here. The room was fairly large. We were across from the kitchen, but we never heard anyone go in there. Big bathroom. Comfortable bed....even had a heater, which we needed. We arrived kind of late and they were shutting down the kitchen, but they hung around to make sure we had something to eat since... More

What a great find in the middle of the North Island. Fantastic converted sawmill now restaurant, bar, boutique hotel and brewery. A must do stop on the NORTH island of New Zealand map. The Sawmill also plays host to some of the very best musicians in the world\. Chances are if a big act is p[laying somewhere in NZ the... More

We called in last Saturday for brunch with a friend from overseas. This was our first visit at the Sawmill Cafe as we usually eat at Matakana after the Saturday Markets. Great interior from the old sawmilling days and there's an excellent range of seating: indoors; under a covered porch and outside in the sun or under trees. The service... More
