This is a fantastic place in the world> Coastal lagoon 9 metres deep on high tide nearly empty on loow tide. Full of fish and mud crabs. Anglers delight. The camp itself is basic but it is in the middle of nowwhere 20 kms down a dirt track 90 kms south of port hedland. It is ideal to get away.... More

Nice place and great fishing but you get eaten alive by midgees. Fishing is a short drive to the lagoon. We caught fish so that is a bonus. Quite pricey for a shared bathroom and campers kitchen. For us it served its purpose of a stop over travelling home.

Overpriced, midges everywhere, but you'll have fresh fish for dinner every night. Coast and beaches are not within walking distance but very pretty. Would not visit again, to expensive for its location.

A beaut caravan park, and nice people. Our stay was ruined by plagues of midges. If the manager had some big signs describing the problem, then we could have prepared. It was impossible to sit outside at dusk, even when smothered in 'The Locals' cream. We left a day early.

I would say! Be prepared, it's a beautiful spot but... Teaming with biting sand midges due to be so close to mangroves and huge tidal changes. Spray up before you land. The camp site is driving distance to the waters edge and some very pretty coastal locations. This site is 23kms off the road up a wide red dirt road... More

The staff at the park were wonderful and helpful. They have great directions and advise.. The budget accommodation rooms left a lot to be desired with poor air conditioning and below budget style rooms. Port Smith itself is pretty boring with a terrible midgie problem!

Stayed at Port Smith Caravan Park for 5 nights. The bay's are huge and all well shaded under tropical trees. We could not get over how quiet it was, the park goes to sleep early at night probably because everyone is up early fishing, crabbing or playing golf on the 9 hole bush course. We went to the $10 fish... More

Just spent 10 days at port smith, what a wonderful experience.staff were so helpful(thank you mark and Karen),we were warned about the sand flies because of high tides, and I suffered a bit but my own fault as I kept fishing amongst the mangroves in the creek and didn't want to get insecticide on my hands in case it contacted the bait.caught... Was impressed with very helpful staff. The amenities were a nice surprise with ensuite style toilet/shower rooms. Great boat/ car gurney only $2. Fishing nearby in a beautiful lagoon or offshore. Air compressor near entrance handy to adjust tyre pressure. Big powered site too.

Nice reception lady, but hard to hear that we could only use our kitchen sink. Not our own shower or basin. Not our own toilet ( no dump point), use our own gas as power cuts out easily. Told don't open caravan windows due to midges, we didn't but we're eaten alive every time you put your head out of... More
