A great location. However having to get the key from Carlton was a pain. The apartment we had was ok but very worn, fittings were dusty, light bulbs blown and not replaced, kitchen did not have all the utensils I needed to make scrambled eggs for breakfast, bathroom looked tired. Place was cheap, so I guess you get what you... More

The bedroom was upstairs and the rest of the apartment downstairs. it was too bad except for when you are trying to get to the bathroom in the middle of the night and navigating the stairs when you are sleepy. The check in was really hard. The place that we had to get the key was in a different location... More

Overall the apartment itself was quite good, really well situated for transport and the city. However the check in was absolutely ridiculous, it is situated 2 trams away from the apartment with no where to store luggage unless it is dragged all over Melbourne. This was particularly inconvenient as my husband was about to undergo a knee replacement the following... More

Rooms were dirty, bathroom was atrocious, no tea or coffee, bedrooms without windows left us feeling claustrophobic, inconvenience actually getting up to the room and the terrible debacle with reception being literally 7 blocks away. Ridiculous! Don't have a single positive thing to say about this place, don't bother with it. You'd be happier on the street

Check in was inconvenient- in another building several blocks away. The room was on 15th floor so no elevator access- 16 stairs to climb but not advance warning on the booking that this was the case. There should be a warning about limitations on access for people with mobility problems or with lots of luggage..

Absolutely disgusted..I wouldn't stay here again, cobwebs, thick dust in bathroom, couch in lounge broken and uncomfortable let alone dirty, holes in wall, I thought it was a serviced apartment we booked but wasn't serviced once while we were there. Wouldn't recommend at all.

This was the dirtiest misrepresented accommodation I have ever stayed in, cobwebs every where small cramped space and split level?! I have bad knees and would like to know this before hand. No reception so we had to drive all over Melbourne to get in. HIGHLY recommend choosing other accommodation!!!!!!!!

After reading the reviews, I was worried but I took my chances! As many people recommended, I booked a room on the 14th floor and was surprised by the STUNNING view of the city. The Plum was easy to locate and I couldn't ask for a better location. PROS: the apartment was right outside the tram stop, which was fantastic... More

What can I say the room itself wasn't all bad and in a good location until you realise you have to go to a different suburb to collect the key What clown runs this place have been to many places where you can collect a key from a special locker in the lobby with a combination they text to you... We arrived in Carlton at the so called 24 hour reception to collect our keys as instructed. The door was locked with a note asking you to ring a mobile number. We had just arrived from Indonesia so didn’t have an Aussie sim. Fortunately we had a great taxi driver who loaned us his phone, we had to wait about... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
