My boyfriend I stayed at Alto hotel for 3 nights from 06/03/08 and we booked the studio apartment (min. 3 nights) for $140/145 per night from wotif.com. Our deal included full breakfast buffet, free internet and carpark. We booked Alto after reading all the nice reviews about it on this website and I’m proud to say I’m very happy that... More

I really thoroughly enjoyed the Alto. I stayed for seven days. I'm a 27 year old single female traveller. I found the staff excellent, the room was great, modern, nothing too splash but had all I needed - nice desk, flat screen tv, etc. Best part was the included breakfast, it's really lovely. Any kind of coffee, fresh fruit buffet... More

I spent 3-nights in a one-bedroom apartment located at the front of the building and could not fault the room, clean, comfortable, cheap internet access..a small flat screen in the bedroom, nice bathroom, maybe a bit noisy for some with the passing trams, but overall I would recommend. On my last night I had to change to what was called... More

We stayed at the Alto in a hotel room. We arrived early just to drop off our bag, and they let us checkin straight away. Great! Lovely furnishings, modern but not austere. Very comfy bed. Responsive air-con. Beautiful clean bathroom. T.V big and crystal clear for late night movies! Breakfast, as mentioned previously, is great value. Service is warm, friendly... More

What a lovely hotel!! Very misleading as you come upon it. Small entrance but once you are inside it is like the Tardis!! Studio room was very spacious with Toaster, Kettle and small kitchen sink. TV was LCD and at least a few more channels than other Australian hotels. The staff on the desk are absolutely wonderful especially Luca who... More

Hotel is a well decorated premise with nicely fittted rooms and very pleasant staff. Location near the bus and train station is an excellent base to set out from and the provision of parking over the road is a useful bonus for a city centre location ( costs extra and you have to book ahead). Cheap and good value breakfast... More

AltoMelbourne, General Manager at Alto Hotel on Bourke, responded to this review

I am concerned that some guests feel we are dishonest in handling their payment. Facts: 1. Alto Hotel does not provide a currency exchange service. 2. We quote and handle Australian Dollars (AUD) only. 3. Credit card transactions are conducted in Australian Dollars (AUD) only. 4. We are charged a fee (in our case approx 0.9%) of each transaction we... More

A group of 18 of us stayed at the Alto for 8 nights. This took several e-mails and phone calls from NZ to organise the rooms but Pippa from the Alto was very helpful and we ended up with 1 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom apartment, 2 2 bedroom and 2 bathroom apartments and 2 twin studio rooms. We had a... More

We have just returned from a 9 night stay at the Alto Hotel. We stayed in a 2 bed/2 bathroom executive apartment which was modern, clean and had "top of the range" chattels and fixtures. The staff were friendly and efficient and we enjoyed the breakfasts in the cafe/restaurant on the ground floor. Although it is at the opposite end... More
