The Alto is a really great hotel for spending a weekend in Melbourne. On this visit we tried one of the two level - two bedroom suites and it was absolutely as promised. The main bedroom was well equipped with queen sized bed, tv, wardrobe and opening doors onto a small but functional julienne balcony. The second bedroom was equipped... More

Wow! After the hotel missed to give out a jacket that was left for storage and desperately needed for a wedding the next day, the owner himself went out of his way and drove a good hour to deliver it to me. This is what I call excellent service recovery, truly amazing service. Thank you once again for saving the... More

A lovely little boutique hotel. Good price and location, within walking distance of Southern Cross station, and trams. On arrival we received an upgrade to a studio king plus room, which while compact, was very comfortable and well equipped, incl. a kitchenette. Double glazed windows muted any traffic noise. We only stayed one night, but enjoyed a full buffet breakfast... More

The Alto is a fantastic little hotel! The room (a studio queen) was compact but had everything we needed (and frankly if you're in Melbourne and spending lots of time in your room, you're doing it wrong!). The hotel serves really delicious breakfast and is conveniently located right near a tram stop on Bourke Street.

the location is great...the price is good....the staff excellent...but...its an old building.. and the floors in some of the rooms are really wonky...we had to change rooms... they were really good about it....and they moved us to a more airy room....which helped.....but you have been warned

I wanted a comfortable apartment, well equipped, with good facilites, in a convenient location for public transport and particularly the airport bus. This place gave me what I wanted. Check-in was friendly and efficient. The apartment was clean and had everything I needed, and it was an easy walk wheeling my suitcase from Southern Cross station. There was also a... More

We LOVED this small hotel. It could not have been more convenient for tourists. We were concerned about towing our luggage a few blocks from the Southern Cross Station, but it was a non-issue as intersections are not curbed and it was easy to roll our bags. The staff was friendly and always available for directions and suggestions. We were... More

My wife and I stayed here over the weekend. The Staff were friendly enough and the place was clean, but to call yourself a "Boutique", hotel is a bit a a stretch. We were told there was no car parking available, and basically had to find our own- the closest being Southern Cross Station @ $45.00 for the night- plus... More

I love this hotel. It is only a minute's walk from Southern Cross Station and the Airbus terminal and it is easy to find. I was welcomed, checked in efficiently, and my room, a petite queen, was comfortable, roomy enough and clean. The bed was super comfortable, with a crisp white duvet, good air con, plenty of teabags and a minibar.... More

This "boutique" hotel was overpriced. Does one leadlight window at the entrance and black and white photographs on the wall make it boutique? The rooms were average, the bathroom smelt of stagnant drains, and the reception staff reeked of insincerity. They were officious and condescending. I would not recommend it.
