We stayed two nights at the Quest Carlton Clocktower over a weekend in February. We had a two bedroom apartment that met our needs very well. The big advantage of this place is the location - close to Lygon Street restaurants, bottleshops, supermarkets, and attractions of many different kinds. Thoroughly recommended and we will be back - the flat was... More

It was the Australian Open week, so limited options as we wanted something close to Draculas Restaurant. The room was located in a lane behind the middle of Lygon St Carlton, and within a 10 min walk to Draculas, so great loc. We ended up with a 2 bedroom unit that was an excellent size. Cost was $219 for the... More

As regular guests at Quest, we were surprised how dated this place is. To bring it up to the usual Quest standard, it needs extensive renovation. As mentioned in other reviews it does not have the facilities of modern apartment accommodation. On the plus side, the location is great, the rooms are a good size and the there is secure... More

My previous stay at the Clock Tower apartments was about 20 years ago when they were still new. I thought they were excellent back then. They have aged and the decor is from the 80s or 90s. Having said that, the apartments are adequate, functional, clean and quite spacious unlike apartments built nowadays. The apartments are well located between Lygon... More

While the location was suitable for us we found our two bedroom apartment to be quite dated and the smell of cigarette smoke was throughout, especially when we first arrived. The service was odd with inflexible staff in reception on two occasions, once regarding car parking and the other regarding late checkout. The bedrooms were stuffy with no aircon. The... More

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. My sincere apologies for the cigarette smoke smell on your arrival. All guests at check in are reminded that we are a strictly non smoking property and even given our best efforts there are still people who flaunt this policy. When this happens housekeeping use an 'ozone' machine to freshen... More

We have spent a few weeks in Quest Carlton Clocktower. The hotel is conveniently located very close to the University of Melbourne, touching the Lygon street restraints, a block away from most tram lines, and a walking distance (25 minutes or so) from the centre of Melbourne. The apartment was quite basic, but has served us well. While the apartment... More

If you can ignore the cheesy 80's decor and just want a well located apartment to bed down in, this one isn't too bad. We (three blokes) stayed in a two bed apartment which also had a sofa bed in the lounge - perfect! I like to be close to the city but also to the street life in Lygon,... More

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights in a 1 bedroom apartment at Quest Clocktower. The apartment was roomy and very comfortable, with a high standard of furnishings and fittings. The location is great, right on Lygon Street and only a 15-20 minute walk or short tram ride to the city. Great value for money compared to much smaller... More

We stayed for one night in a 1 bed apartment (#20). The apartment was enormous although furnished in 1970s style. However, the apartment seemed clean and the front desk staff were very helpful. One annoyance was that the money for the room came out of my credit card on booking - I think they should wait until you actually stay.... More

The staff at Quest Carlton Clocktower are simply delightful. They certainly make your stay a joy from start to finish. The location is brilliant with a variety of restaurants and wine bars only seconds away. Shopping is also very good indeed. Make sure you visit Readings on Lygon Street to stock up on books of all sorts.

Staying in Lygon Street

Neighborhood Profile
Lygon Street
If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the place. Until recently, this neighborhood was home to the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who started their day with a local espresso. They are gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this Little Italy which has something for everyone. Starched white tablecloths, candles, pizza the way they do it "back home" and maybe even a bit of amore. The number of gelato choices will leave you in a state of indecision and wide footpaths, big awnings and a sea of packed tables makes this al fresco dining experience a continental buzz. Even if you’re not eating, it’s worth the stroll just for the people-watching, which, of course, is an Italian tradition.
