We arrived later than reception is open and the manager rang to make sure we knew procedure to get our key and access to room. Thank you .. very kind. Our room was a liitle dated but clean and the bed wS comfortable. Plenty of room! Reception staff were excellent. Parking is $18/night which we thought was reasonable. Everything worked in the kitchen and I liked the bath! There are no extras in bathroom except for soap, so bring your own shampoo, etc. Windows don't all close, so bring earplugs if you don't want to be woken by early morning traffic. Really, it was not a luxurious stay but very good for the price and we would stay again for the service and comfortable bed!

Our ground floor apartment was clean, tidy and well equipped with all we could want. Wi-Fi was fine. My only grizzle is that the shower is over the bath and lacks a grabrail or anything else to hang on to. A grabrail would be a cheap and easy fix to reassure this 76 year old that he would be safe to take a shower. Otherwise, full marks to them. Admittedly, the place is old and in need of some minor refurbishment. We love East Melbourne and can recommend the café round the corner in Albert St for breakfast. We walked into town along Albert St and through the gardens – a lovely walk.

3 night stay you’ll find much better. Beds terribly uncomfortable. The apartment was old with old appliances and cracks in walls. Shower was too short and fridge leaked. Pictures on website look nothing like the place. Very disappointing. Would not come back.

Birches could not have been better for our needs. The apartment was well-appointed and clean, well-described by their online listing. The location was perfect with good access to public transport, markets, and the beautiful East Melbourne area. The service was dependable and efficient. The staff, particularly Jamie, were helpful and very responsive to our needs. We had a very nice, very comfortable 5-week stay.

I have been writing reviews for Tripadvisor for almost 15 years and I have never been so close to giving accommodation 1 star. I booked five nights at Birches as I was looking for a nice ‘home away from home’ experience while I was at the Aus. Open. As it turns out this is nothing of the sort and the rooms bear no resemblance to those on the website. And I make this statement only after looking in the windows of vacant rooms…..The rooms all look much more like a youth hostel or student accommodation as opposed to the grown up and stylish. Cheap furniture, dated appliances and fixtures, industrial carpets, and our room even slightly smelled. Birches is spared the indignities of 1 start as it has good WiFi and the AirCon is OK If you want student digs then you are in luck. For the rest of you out there, you’ve been warned.

We had a long stay in Melbourne due to ongoing medical appointments. Birches was a fantastic option. Unique that we could have our much-loved dog with us, pet friendly in every way. Apartment was clean and well appointed; the bed was extremely comfortable. Staff went out of their way to assist us. Birches was excellent during lockdown as each unit has separate air conditioning unit and is fully self-contained. Location is excellent we loved walking around the local area. Easy walk to major sporting facilities, parks, and the city. Close to major hospitals and public transport links. Nearby shopping; and restaurants. Loved the secure off road parking facility. We cannot wait to come back and stay when Melbourne is open to enjoy all that this area has to offer. Thank you to staff for making our stay so comfortable.

I reserved this accomodation on Air BnB. Being time poor and on the road to Melbourne I did not take the time to shop around. I paid $150 more than I found on other sites when it was too late. Car parking on other sites only $15 so according to hosts Air BnB have charged me $125 in service fees. Do your research and shop around. The accomodation was in great location for the footy and medical appointments and is pet friendly. The accomodation is 3 star at best. Stains on carpet in bedroom. Burn marks on bedside table. Kitchen cabinets with water damage at booth and chipboard damaged. Tired looking basic cheap accomodation. The $160 on sites like booking.com I think is fair. Do not be fooled into paying more. Don’t be time poor and get scammed like I was. After just being cleared from home isolation I was so looking forward to a nice night away from home and this had me very upset.

Comfortable, clean, great location, and quiet. The staff were incredibly kind, helpful and genuine. We didn’t have pets with us, but as dog lovers we had a feeling that a hotel run by people who like being surrounded by pooches was the kind of place for us. We were spot on! Every time we left the room we got to make a new four-legged friend. It really made for a wonderful, brief visit.
