This was one of the worst hostels we stayed in 3 months. To start positive: the location is great, in the centre Melbourne. We didn’t like the room without windows and noisy till late. The kitchen is not always available because some evenings they were making free meals and then you can’t use the kitchen. Kitchen was often dirty. Fridge... More

First hostel in Melbourne I stayed in & i'm so glad I chose this one!! It's centrally located, clean and definitely secure! Nice big kitchen, welcoming communal area and of course the roof top where I met some lovely people :) Pub nits & pasta nits included! Not to mention the helpful staff throughout!! Free Wi-fi & best rooms are... More

I have stayed at 12 diff hostels across Oz and this is by far the best, clean room, the beds are sooo comfortable and sturdy as in if i roll over i don't move the person below me, the social areas are brilliant too with the massive TV room. I Defiantly recommend this hostel!

Really good experience! This was my first hostel in Melbourne. Friendly staff, nice and open communal area, big kitchen and security. Free wi-fi connection but really slow during busy hours. The room was spacious with shelves, lockers and space on the floor. The only bad aspect to me is cleanliness, but this also depend on users!

Friendly staff, good security.Place gets a little noisy now and again, but so what,it's a hostel. My grouses-- 1.Constant music in the common area/lounge.Annoying when using internet, having to listen to Radiohead or worse. 2.Poor internet connection, which I think is probably just lack of band width, but needs sorting. otherwise --I had a great stay and am currently trying to re-book. Thanks again guys.... More

I arrived in the evening and was checked in by 2 guys who were extremely helpful with my questions! The room itself was spacious with shelves, lockers and lots of floor space. The lights are all on timers so there is no wasting of power, each bed has its own reading lamp, the bathrooms were clean clean clean and it... More

The place has a very good reputation and having stayed there I could see all its pluses. Well-organized and super friendly staff, travel agent in the lobby giving excellet advice ( just loved the Great Ocean Tour with Go West), clean rooms and bathrooms.

When you stay alone at a backpacker, the value of your experience depends on things outside the reach of the place you are staying at, as for example, the people you have to stay with. And that is why I don't give it a lower rating. Anyway, Greenhouse is located at a great spot in the best city of Australia.... More

I have stayed here many times on trips to Melbourne for Formula 1 and during other times. Staff are always friendly, check in/out is pretty effortless and the rooms are pretty good value. I have never actually used the kitchen here, so I'm not sure how good it is. The main upside to Greenhouse is the location; a short walk... More

This place was really not much. - The kitchen was really (but really !) disgusting eventhough it was cleaned twice a day. What does that say for the guests staying there ? - No oven in the kitchen. How do we cook a pizza ??? - Our first room was windowless !!! For the same price, we had a much... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
