No motel can beat this location. It is very near the main and beautiful train station. Swanton street is very central to everything that Melbourne city life can bring you: China town, major tram stops, train station, central shopping malls etc. Other things else like room, service, facility is not for comment. It is very very normal.

The efficiency of the staff impressed us most. Very quick in answering email, booking and check in/out was a breeze. We stayed in the delux double, we had no choice since the standard doubles all booked out due to the Grand Prix. The room was very spacious, bathroom meticulously clean with powerful shower, the only downside was the dull dark... More

I still can't believe I paid 90 dollars for a room. Bathroom was clean and the location was central. If you intend to stay in your room all day, then the rooms might be a bit small, but for the price you can't complain. My only suggestion would be a small corner table from Ikea as eating from a tray... More

i was surprised by the central location just opposite the Starbucks at City Square. Only 5min walk to Federation Square and Collins Street. Many restaurants and supermarkets around. Definitely 5 stars for the locations. Considering the price (paid 80 dollars on a weekday) you need to compromise on service and facilities. The reception hours were rather odd. 8am-8pm (Mon, Tue)... This was the first holiday i had ever planned by myself, so i was anxious for everything to go super smoothly. I was in Melbourne to see the Titanic exhibition so i was looking for accommodation that was clean, central to shops and transport, cheap and had a good reputation. City Square exceeded my expectations on all these fronts! On... More

I stayed here after reading all the reviews on here about it. It proved to be just as excellent as described. The location (corner of Collins and Swanston street) made the hotel an ideal place to get to as there is a tram stop virtually out the front. Being in the heart of the city was ideal and I could... First impression as we lugged baggage down the narrow mirrored passageway to the tiny reception office at the end was "Gawd, what have we here!". Receptionist was welcoming and friendly enough...then came the lift (elevator)...rather old and clunky with doors that would take a limb off if you weren't quick enough. Wound our way through the paint-chipped passageway to our... More

This motel is located rather inconspicuously in the Melbourne CBD, but spot the sign and you're in for a real find! For a motel, it is indeed value for money. The location was ideal for me as most of my activities and meetings took place in the Melbourne CBD - it was nice to make my way back after a... More

Despite looking like a shabby backpacker at the front entrance, the rooms & bathroom were surprisingly clean & spacious. Although we couldn't hear the noise outside, the rooms are not well sound-proofed and we could hear (quite clearly) chatter and baby crying in the next room & corridor. A major let down was the poor service there - after check... More

I have stayed here about six times now and this place does not dissappoint. Always a room available for $79 a single, right in the heart of melbourne on Swanston street. No traffic noise as you are right off the street with reception ground floor and two lifts with rooms on floors above. Solid construction so you don't here any... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
