Don't be put off by the lack of street appeal of this great motel. We loved the central location and found the amenities provided everything we needed for a comfortable 8 night stay. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. If you are a light sleeper you might prefer a room that doesn't face Swanston Street, as it is... More

We booked the City Square Motel largely due to the positive reviews on Tripadvisor. We found the room to be of a good size with very comfortable beds and clean linen. The bathroom was clean and adequate as was the tea and coffee making facilities. The light breakfast lacked a little presentation and creativity (brown bread would be nice) and... More

I found this to be a good motel, with very good rooms, and situated right in the heart of Melbourne. The room was good, and quite spacious. It was also surprisingly quiet, given its location, although the price paid for this is a lack of natural light. Still, it was great to walk out of my cool, quiet room into... More

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of a two week holiday. As mentioned in other reviews, the entrance way is very narrow however don't let this put you off. The staff on reception were very polite and helpful and couldn't do enough for us. Our room was on the 6th floor and we were pleasantly surprised when... More

For an affordable price, this hotel had everything I needed - bed, ensuite, tv, fridge, tea/coffee facilities.....and within a superb central location. Ok, the decor is just a little outdated but that is hardly worth worrying about. The desk staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms were clean and serviced daily. I would definately stay here again and recommend... More

Like others have said, this is right in the middle of the action. Flinder's station which is 2 blocks away is the central station. Plus multiple trams to pick up in front of the hotel. Off Collins Lane, around the corner are a bunch of cafes. Bourke St has fancy department stores. And the Crown casino is an easy and... More

My husband and I have just returned from a great stay at this motel. Yes, it does not have the spacious foyer, stylish elevators and in-house restaurant - but who needs that when you are touring this amazing city? The rooms are basic but clean and tidy - all you really need. Even the light breakfast provided each day gives... More

My wife and I stayed two nights at the City Square Motel. The entrance is extremely modest, with only a tiny sign indicating the front door. That leads to a narrow hall, with the reception desk at the end. As we entered, I had some doubts about selecting this place. However, the room and the hotel's public areas were spotless,... More

Well-appointed, if minimalist, hotel in heart of city. Excellent value for money, and the staff were consistently friendly and helpful (except in one instance when I was confused about bus pick-up for the airport. Sarcasm really wasn't necessary). That stands out for me, because otherwise people were impressively supportive throughout our stay, even changing rooms and moving our bags for... More

We were here for 4 nights and found the studio apartment perfect for our needs. It was spotless and surprisingly spacious. Staff were helpful. No view but as a result, no noise. Excellent value!

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
