We stayed at The Grand on 7th and 8th November and usually choose this hotel when we visit Melbourne. (We have stayed here many times before). We had booked a Studio room, but were very happy to be offered a free-upgrade to a loft-style one bedroom apartment. (Room 440) The bed is absolutely fabulous! The bathroom was spacious, clean and... more

This hotel does not live up to it's potential. Certainly a grand old building, but even that looks grubby on the outside - like it needs a good sandblast. The sit down check in area is clumsy and understaffed every time I walked by. The bar downstairs is impressivley clubby however seemed empty most of the time and cold -... more

Please be assured we have taken your comments very seriously. All customer feedback is appreciated and wherever possible, changes are made to our hotel operations. We very much regret that the Grand Hotels age, character, charm and unique location did not provide you with any pleasure, please be assured our 120 year old setting provides the vast majority of our...

We booked this as a "secret deal" through lastminute.com.au. I can see now why it's secret, because no-one would book there willingly. After booking and finding out where we were staying I immediately jumped on to Tripadvisor and was very disappointed to read others experiences. I would have cancelled if I was able to but with these secret bookings cancellation... more

If it were not for the friendliness of the staff at arrival and the assistance of a passing staff member (when our keys would not swipe us into our room) - I would have very little positive words to say. Disgusting - there was no doona cover on the doona - just sheet above and a sheet below - what... more

I don't think that the Grand Hotel will be everyone's ciup of earl grey, but for those who like character, unflashy hospitality and genuine warmth, the Grand is a great option - especially if you're attending a conference or exhibition at MCEC (which is less than 5 minutes walk). I have stayed four or five times and particularly love the... more

On several special occassions throughout the years, we have stayed at this hotel. The front desk reception staff were okay but seemed very cold. They could have made us feel more welcome on check in, on all the occassions we have been to this hotel. Maybe a quick friendly chat or a smile on arrival, might have helped. On one... more

My Wife, Marion and I are frequent visitors to Melbourne and until recently used to alternate between The Grand and the Sofital. We were originally introduced to The Grand through our Accor membership, and have stayed in the hotel on frequent occasions. It's certainly a very different hotel from The Sofital, but it's heritage appealed to us, along with it's... more

After reading all the reviews on here, I was very nervous about staying here. We booked our accommodation through a Wotif Mystery deal. Upon arrival we were greeted by a lovely doorman who took our bags for us. Check-in was super easy and quick. We arrived early (before the 2pm check-in), so they held our bags while we went shopping.... more

I booked this hotel as part of my Accor Advantage Plus membership and also because I thought it was a high end hotel. I was very disappointed. For $179.00 night, (a red hot room rate) we were given a room that took about 10 mins to walk to from the elevator, one king bed when I requested a twin room... more
