Whenever I stay in the city of Melbourne, I always stay at this hotel. Quite simply, it's terrific! The staff are professional and ever accommodating. The rooms are well maintained and the location is excellent, sitting in the edge of Chinatown and walking distance to great restaurants and pubs. So good!

In a city chock full of hotels, it all comes down to value for money, location and the size of your budget. This property has a mix of refurbished and yet-to-be modernised rooms and suites. I took one of the un-modernised King rooms and despite an older-style air conditioner and some less than perfect fittings (e.g. Wonky wardrobe door) it... More

Air conditioner in the room doesn't work. Bathroom looks like from the 80's. Very nice kitchen. Views to a wall. Poor breakfast buffet, no so much healthy options or variety and expensive. Coffee not included.

We stayed here recently for our wedding anniversary & also the Tennis. The Rydges staff had left us a bottle of bubbly & a box of chocolates. Not many hotels do that these days! The room was an apartment style room, huge, full cooking facilities, lounge, big fridge, comfy bed, 2 Tv's. The bathroom was also huge. They have been... More

We booked a room and asked for a high floor. When we checked in they upgraded our room to a spa room on the 7th floor. Check in was fast as it was 1.30am in the morning when we arrived, however we weren't informed of the 3% surcharge by paying with American Express. The 7th floor didn't have much of... More

We recently stayed here for 4 nights and the hotel was right up there with our expectations of a Rydges Hotel!! We have stayed at many other Rydges across Australia and this one is right up there. It is positioned right next to China Town and 3 blocks from the Bourke Street Mall. We enjoyed their buffet breakfasts and the... More

The location of this hotel could not be better for a night out at the theatre...just across the road! We enjoyed our welcome drink and as Priority Reward members also had a 1pm checkout! We were initially disappointed the restaurant was booked out but shared a delicious pizza and bits and pieces from the bar menu. The room was comfortable... More

Booked through Expedia website. Mystery deal for "4.5*" Theatre District Melbourne. Room was relatively small, bit shabby if you looked closely, neat and clean. Bathroom Very small, door hit toilet bowl! Perfectly adequate but not for a romantic stay. Great big windows, which i liked, no balcony, view ok on an angle..light and bright. Across the road from Princess Theatre... More

I guess my review is more a reflection of me than Rydges Melbourne. I am constantly disappointed by Australian hotels because my expectations are probably so high. Here are the facts: checkin was easy and fast, my room was upgraded (at a cost - as a black member this has never happened before), the room itself was nice and clean... More

Had a Rydges "Summer Sizzler" deal - $175 for one night & full buffet breakfast for two. Wi-Fi included, with 12 noon checkout. o/n parking just $9. Great value all round although the "de luxe" rooms are looking a bit tired. Very small bathroom - shower in the bath and only just enough room for the toilet. Very noisy floor-mounted... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
