me and a friend arrived Melbourne at 1 a.m. and needed a hotel near Southern Cross Station. after browsing on the internet on the choices available, we decided on Kingsgate Hotel. we opted for the Bunk bed Economy room with shared bathroom which is surprisingly cheaper than twin-share room at backpackers hostel. the rooms are clean and despite few reviews,... more

strongly recommended to book a cheaper room (shared showers) on the net and ask at reception for upgrade to en suite - it's cheaper this way :)) the room was simple but functional: fridge, tv, coffee/tea-making facilities and a big comfy bed :) more

After a 26h trip what you want is go to bed and a little bit of comfort. I stayed about a week and changed rooms three times. My first room was as big as a shoe box and smell of perspiration. The staff was very helpful and gave me a new room which was slightly bigger for the same price.... more

It was my first trip to Melbourne and as I was told that the hotels are very expensive there, I have chosen Kingsgate on friend's recommendation as a cheap hotel. I paid $88 per room and I still think it was a rip off. I felt in the room like in a 19th century prison cell (a bed, a chair... more

When I first walked into the hotel room, I was immensely underwhelmed. I was expecting basic provisions but this place looked more like a hostel dormitory - things looked old and had the general feel of being slightly unwelcome. The hotel had also provided us with a double bed when we had stipulated that we needed a twin room. When... more

My husband and I stayed here and to be honest I was shocked at how awful the room was. Our room had no window, it was noisy and the room was old and crumbly. They claimed to have internet access but it didn't work. They had a kettle provided but it was yellow and moldy inside. It was more like... more

We booked a room for $80 per night. And we got just that. A room. It had a bed, a wardrobe (no coat hangers, so that was useless) and a chair. We asked about getting a refund and trying to find another place because of how appauling the room was and were told, by the manager, that he 'personally wouldn't... more

I have never been in such a shabby hotel. I requested and personally asked if my room had own bathroom and tea/coffee making facilities. They assured me all double rooms have both (yeah right), my room was a bed with walls around it. I had to walk down a dimly lit corridor to get there. I asked to see my... more

I stayed with my parents for a week in Summer. Our room was small but comfortably sized, double bed, single bed, TV, air con and other general basic amenities. The room was not spotless but not visibly dirty. I think it is more that it looks shabby on account of the age of the place. We also had an en... more
