The room was large enough for 1 person. The curtains were lovely at blocking out the natural light. During the day you can hear the post office bells come but not in the middle of the night. The doors use reused magnetic strip cards to open so there can be problems. When the 2 failed for me reception happily replaced... More

Myself and my partner spent a four night break in this hotel. The hotel is in an amazing location, smack bang in the middle of the CBD. It is located in a laneway just off Bourke Street so you have the convenience of the city but not much of the noise. The laneway is also home to some lovely little... More

You get what you pay for - so in addition to what I paid for I got a clean and very small room but I liked it. Very Clean and good location. Location - this is excellent and definitely 5/5 - its just of the main shopping street but also quiet and in a secluded street which makes it peaceful.... More

Another trip to Melbourne, stayed at the Causeway again, two nights only. I only booked the standard room with breakfast but when checking in was informed I had been upgraded, nice welcome. Once again found room clean and no problems. Staff at the Causeway are always friendly and helpful, had a late flight home so left my bag all day,... More

Tucked away in a laneway in the heart of Melbourne city, this is a great spot to stay for the weekend or for business trip. We enjoyed the restaurants and the night life of all Melbourne has to offer on our trip, even though the room was on the small side and the bathroom was a bit outdated. We love... More

Right in the pedestrian zone - can not be more centrally located . The room in the minimum size was old and worn out. Poor cleaning. Consecutive win from the door and ventilation grates. Sleazy reception. Absolutely fair pricing.

If you want a cheap and comfortable base when visiting Melbourne, why not try Causeway Inn? You can't get a better spot for shopping and dining! Trams are at your doorstep and most attractions are an easy walking distance. The room was small but had the most comfortable bed ever! Continental breakfast is available as a buffet everyday. Some of... More

Pleasantly surprised. Room was small but very clean, great towels/pillows and comfy bed. Breakfast was basic but enough for a quick bite before work. Staff very friendly. Would stay again for convenience and cheap accomodation.

We booked for six nights chosen on location to CBD, but really wished we had looked at other hotels in the area. The town hall clock was quite loud and people congregated in the lane way until early hours of the morning. The breakfast was included in our booking, but even then was very disappointing with cheap ingredients and the... More

I had room 404, twin single beds. The room is small but has everything you need - except a small comfortable armchair. The room and linen were very clean. TV was about 30". Breakfast was very good with so many choices. Staff were excellent. The hotel is on Burke St Mall, so convenient for shopping.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
