This B& B is a great place to stay when visiting Melbourne. It is in a great location - just a short stroll to Lygon st where there are many interesting shops, cafes, restaurants and cinemas. It is only a short walk to the tram stop which takes you into the CBD . Despite being very close to the shops... More

A comfortable room in a character property located in a quiet leafy street just outside the CBD. A diy breakfast of cereal, toast and spreads was a convenient start to the day. Close to many excellent restaurants. My first choice if I am in Melbourne again

169 Drummond Street, is one of the best B&B places we've had the pleasure to stay in (3 nights). We found this little gem through TripAdvisor recommendation, and am so glad we booked it. Our early morning flight into Melbourne meant that we were way ahead of the official check in time of 2pm. Graciously, Ian, the very funny &... More

We started our trip down under at 169 Drummond and it was a great time. By all means take Ian's advice on where to eat as he has some gems near him. Great location, accommodations, a simple self service breakfast and charm! It was also great knowing we had a caring host.

We stayed at 169 Drummond for four nights and everything exceeded our expectations. When we travel, there are five key criteria we prioritize when evaluating a hotel or B&B: 1) LOCATION: the Carlton area is ideal, just outside the CBD, the B&B is located one block from Lygon Street (with countless dining options) and Melbourne Museum, with easy access to... As others have said (including the host, Ian) very good value for money in a great location - close to a range of restaurants, mostly Italian, but others as well in multicultural Melbourne. It's only a 15-20 min walk to the CBD or you can take the excellent tram service. We stayed for 5 nights (easy to fill in 2... More

This is the second time we have stayed here. It's an absolute gem and Ian is a wonderful host. We will be back. A short walk to great restaurants. Close enough to walk to the centre of Melbourne. Lovely parks nearby.

We stayed 3 nights at this b&b. It was an absolutely pleasant place to stay which you can compare to a hotel room. We were impressed how well of this heritage building has been maintained, spotless and it has everything you need when travelling. Very good location, 5 mins walk to Lygon street, the little Italy, numerous restaurants to choose,... More

This B & B was close to everything we needed. A wee walk to the city centre but no problem. Fantastically close to Lygon Street. Thank you to Ian (who is a gem) for pointing the way to some great restaurants. The room was clean and quiet... and warm. Breakfast is all you need. No hesitation in going back and... More

Staying in Lygon Street

Neighborhood Profile
Lygon Street
If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the place. Until recently, this neighborhood was home to the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who started their day with a local espresso. They are gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this Little Italy which has something for everyone. Starched white tablecloths, candles, pizza the way they do it "back home" and maybe even a bit of amore. The number of gelato choices will leave you in a state of indecision and wide footpaths, big awnings and a sea of packed tables makes this al fresco dining experience a continental buzz. Even if you’re not eating, it’s worth the stroll just for the people-watching, which, of course, is an Italian tradition.
