Travelling alone , my hotel a couple of doors up could not accommodate me for the next night so rather than shift to another part of town I enquired at this simple hostel for a room for the night. I have not stayed in Hostels since I was a backpacker travelling in Europe a hundred years ago when I was... More

If you have an early flight or something or are only spending one night in the city then this central hostel is great. However, if you happen to be here on one of Melbourne's hot spells prepare to be uncomfortable. There is no aircon in any of the rooms or the kitchens/communal space and because of the fire doors and... More

Hi Traviesa Thanks for your review and we are sorry that you had a less than great stay. Melbourne generally gets only a couple of very hot days a year but this summer was exceptional with a run of hot nights. The hostel is in a restored historic building that normally keeps cool and doesn't warrant running environmentally unfriendly Air... More

The hostel is located in a very central area, close to airport shuttle, Federation Square and all buses. The staff was kind to me, the common area was clean, the bathroom and the room as well; if I have to make a note, I'd say it's a bit old - you can see it from the rooms, but beds are... More

Of course there are some good things about this hostel. For example, very helpful staff, clean bathrooms and toilets, rooftop, size of rooms and location. But that is kind of it. If you are travlling as a backpacker, it is nice to have a common room where you can meet other people, and a big spacious kitchen where there is... More

On the good side: + friendly staff + very central location + renovated bathrooms On the bad side: - no air con (and that at 42°C outside temperature - as if Melbourne didn't have a summer) - uncomfortable beds - super expensive baggage lockers after check-out - absolutely no atmosphere. Overall the place feels like a state pen rather than... More

Hi lazy2000 Thanks for your review, and YHA notes all comments on our hostels. Usually Melbourne only has a couple of days of real heat a year and so having air con is not only costly but also bad for the environment. This summer the city has had an exceptional run of warm days which was obviously when you visited.... More

Melbourne Central YHA is safe, secure, clean and is well located within the city centre with good transport options near it. Southern Corss Train and Bus terminal is a mere block away thus only needing 5- 10 minutes walk. Tram stops are right in front or next to the Hostel. It is located on the other end of Flinders street... More

I stayed here for 5 nights when my parents were over visiting, although they stayed in a hotel! It was good value for money and mostly clean. My 4 bedded room was nice, and the bathrooms were probably the best i've seen in a hostel. I can't really comment on the common areas, as I didn't use them. Staff were... More

This hostel was located well for southern cross station and the sky bus and on the very edge of the CBD, it is about a 15 minute walk to Fed square. The hostel it self was very dated, with small social areas. The rooms are fairly small and very hot on a warm day, the blinds also didn't meet to... More
