Pros: excellent location - easy to walk or get tram into the city or south of the river and near southern cross and flinders st stations. Seating and tables on the roof makes for a nice outdoor mealtime. Rooms are the standard of an average hostel so can't really complain. Staff are friendly and helpful. Cons: not enough showers/toilet facilities... More

Location is right by the circle tram line as well as other lines, easy walking distance to the train station. Very safe as need key to get into each floor. Really liked it but it was fully booked so will need to book quickly.

This hostel is located in front of free tram zone and free city circle tram . It is also walking distance from southern cross station and close to most attractions Facilities are clean but basic for price paid and then you need to pay for locker storage ,there is no room to just store them so I did not see... I'll definitely be returning here when I visit Melbourne next. It's cheap and gives what it guarantees. It's a quick stumble to most places/bars in the CBD. The view from the room is nothing special, but for $40/night (non-members) who cares. Spend your excess on drinks and food.

I don't usually stay in hostels, but I was pleasantly surprised with this one. Some of it's perks are that : it is located directly in front of the free city tram stop; you are within walking distance of Southern Cross station, many of the Melbourne's main tourist sites, and near restaurants and shopping. The staff was very pleasant and helpful... More

I stayed at this hostel for 4 days, first in a private room with two bunks and then in a 3-bed shared room. Both rooms were clean and quiet. The hostel had a friendly staff and an open, bright, modern ambiance. Its location was a bit out of the way from downtown but it was easy to take public transit... More

This YHA is in a great spot, within walking distance from the train station. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean. Well priced and it seemed they had some good kitchen/living room facilities there. The showers and toilets were really clean too.

YHA are always of higher than average hostel standard, and this being one of the more recently renovated means it is a cut above. Bathrooms and showers were clean, service was friendly. Very close to transport connections which makes it convenient. Have stayed there previously and would stay there again.

I slept here for 4 days since it had a lot of good reviews and the price offers you one of the cheapest places in the city. However the wifi downstairs needs to be logged in every hour.. and is friggin slow.. common its 2015 already.. And if you want wifi in your room you either have to pay, or... More

Facilties are what you can expect from a Backpackers Hostel. Very well located, 5 min walk from the Central station and it has 2 nice terraces, one on the rooftop, where you can easily mingle with other people. Nice kitchen and common area. Bathrooms are clean. We share a 4 bed room and it was just OK. The staff at... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
