The Pickled Frog is easily the best small hostel I've stayed at in Australia. No questions asked. What stood out the most for me in my two nights at the Pickled Frog (besides the fantastic lounge area, the affordable cost for smaller rooms and the great social culture of the place), was a conversation with one of the owners at... Stayed there for 3 days in a three people dorm. The room was very small. Looks like they squeezed an extra single bed inside. No places to put luggages when the room was full. But love the sink in the room. Quite noisy though. You could hear every single person passed along the corridor. No lift. Prepare to climb upstairs.... More

Went to Hobart for about a week, and spent two nights at The Pickled Frog. First impression was the awesome layout: entry into a reception/lounge/bar area (happy hour from 8-9 pm, cheap drinks on select nights). Beyond that, video games, pool, TV, much more lounging space, decently big kitchen, cheap laundry, etc. Then a few rooms downstairs, plenty more upstairs.... More

I stayed there a couple of nights The negative: It is an old building so the walls are thins, you can hear people in the corridor (hopefully they sell earplug). The bathroom REALLY need to be renovate: it is small and the sink was stuck with hair. The mirror is ridiculously tiny!!!! The shower not so great. The posiitive: It... More

Loved our time at the pickled frog! Super friendly place, great common area, and it feels quite homey. It isn't a sparkly new hostel, but it's character outweighs any shortcomings it may have in terms of facilities. Greatly recommended

That is great you had such a great experience! You are correct, we are not new or shiny but we don't ever pretend to be - we're just happy when people like you can appreciate the character of the place above not being all fancy ;) Thanks again - we're very glad you enjoyed your stay with us. I booked for one night and wish I could stay more! The place is well located, with huuuge common space, comfortable couches, spacious kitchen, two lovely dogs and even an hamac ! The staff is really friendly and help me with some problems, by giving useful advises. I definitely recommend it!

I had a great time at The Pickled Frog! The staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. There's a great social vibe here, I met a lot of cool people. Convenient location and clean rooms. Cheap beer and cider at their bar! Free wifi throughout the hostel, which is not common in Australia as most hostels I've been to charge for... More

Pickled Frog turned out to be just as I had thought it would be. I had taken a personal room which had a bunk bed arrangement with little space apart from the bed. There was a window which almost directly opened into other rooms. The bathrooms were clean and available whenever I needed. The dim lighting in the room is a... More

Hello mate, thanks for your review. You'll be happy to hear we are in the process of doing up all our rooms, especially the private rooms. We did have nice lamps in the private rooms but would you believe that over the last 12 months these have ALL been stolen! Disgusting isn't it! I'm glad you enjoyed our Mt Wellington... More

I have been to Hobart 2 times, one time was Feb 2014 and this Feb 2015 is my second visit. I stayed in another hostel in the same neighbourhood as The Pickled Frog but my intention of writing this review is not to compare the two hostels. Anyway, here we go the review of The Pickled Frog from me: First,... More
