My recent dining experience was far from satisfactory. The majority of the staff were rude and unhelpful. It was felt throughout the dining experience that they were trying to hurry us along, the meal was average and i will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone.

The room was very cold. On street parking is a nightmare and the noise from backpackers is unbearable. Lots of noise drifts up from the rowdy folks partying in the alleyway on the side of the hotel. The location is very central to lots of shopping and restaurants, and only a short walk to Salamanca Place.

The hostel is perfectly located in the city. The facilities are simple and old, but preserved. The staff is kind and helpful. There is a pub in the first floor where you can enjoy the happy hour and listen to good live music, while you drink several beer brands by the fireplace.

I have stayed in many many backpackers all around the world (and Australia) and this was the worst experience so far. I had a double room to myself, which was fairly clean but had an old bandaid stuck on the window sill right next to my pillow. When you come in, it's all done up nicely to reflect the Brunswick... If you are use to staying at hostels in New Zealand, you will be terribly disappointed in the cleanliness, maintenance and management in this place. The pub is good, just don't get a room or go into the kitchen.

I have stayed in plenty of hostels in my time, and this ranks somewhere in the middle. I booked a 4 bed female room for one night (a Sunday) before a bus tour, and was lucky enough to have the room to myself. Check in open until 8pm (possibly 9, but I think 8) as per most hostels it is... More

When we arrived and walked through the pub/reception place and thought it looked lovely. However the hostel hasn't had the same level of upkeep as the pub! It's a very old building but the hostel part looks a lot older than the rest. Bathrooms aren't clean at all and sinks etc are old so stained and look dirty. Rooms were... More

I stayed for almost 3 weeks, while working a little, enjoying Hobart and the areas around! I have mostly been to the big providers like YHA or Nomads but getting to know the independent representatives was a really good experience. The prices in general are ok ($28 for a 6-share) but if you stay a little longer, you get every... More

Not impressed. Where were these photos taken? I certainly did not see any rooms that looked as good as these did. Bathrooms were very dirty and mouldy. Always wore thongs in the shower and on the carpet. I don't think my blanket had been dry cleaned in a long while, hairs and stains. I would not stay here again and... More

Stayed here for a night in late January. The staff were friendly and professional. The pub had a great atmosphere with some good beers on tap and best of all the location! Right in the middle of town and opposite a Woolies supermarket to grab groceries. Inside the backpackers is a large courtyard with the usual amenities like kitchen, large... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Brunswick Hotel is one of the last remaining hotels that once graced Liverpool Street. Established in 1827, twenty years after the settlement of Hobart, the hotel represents an important part of this country’s social history. The Brunswick Hotel bar boosts eight different beers on tap that includes Cascade Brewery’s finest beers (the oldest brewery in Australia), an evolving section of some of Tasmanian’s premium red and white wines both by the glass and bottle. The Brunswick Hotel also provides very fairly priced Hotel rooms that are the perfect choice for a centrally located Hobart stay. Our en-suite rooms come equipped with a fridge, tea & coffee and a flat screen TV. Our restaurant headed up by one of Hobart’s premium chefs, Tony Gamble, who has produced a menu that exemplifies locally sourced produce, meat, seafood and cheeses. These dishes leads themselves to be shared between friends or indulge on some of our pub classics, such as Marrawah Steak sandwich, our own Brunswick Lamb Burger, grilled calamari and our own hand cut fries. The Brunswick Hotel is the perfect place for a casual every day lunch and dinner catch-up or unwind. Not to mention a ‘Hobart Getaway’ for the weekend. With the longest chesterfield in Tassie (second longest in the world), comfy leather booths or tradition "sit at the bar" seating, we are ready for you at Hobart’s newest friendly local hotel. ... more   less
