This was the second time I started at the Astor and I will definitely stay again next time I'm in Hobart. It's very reasonably priced for a hotel. It reminds me of the hotel my grandparents managed in the 1960s and I doubt whether anything much had changed since then and its perfectly charming as is. I hope it continues... More

Spent two evenings here in December (only just got round to writing the review...). Basically the hotel is exactly what it says on the tin, no frills or modern style but fantastically looked after and slightly reminded me of my grandparents home decorated in the 1970's. A really warm and helpful welcome and be prepared to have a bit of... More

Was in Hobart for Dark MOFO and this hotel was recommended by a friend. Excellent location, close to everything. Room was clean, warm, cozy, quiet and reasonably priced. Tildy the manager was friendly and helpful. Highly Recommended. Would stay here again for sure.

You don't just stay at the Astor, you experience the Astor. Old world charm situated right in the middle of everything you want in Hobart. We stayed in 2 different ensuited rooms a week apart. Both rooms were spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Thank you Tildy for making our experience of the Astor so memorable.

A charming, welcoming hotel. Different to anywhere I have stayed- it felt like staying at my grandmother's house. Rooms were comfortable and very tidy. Bathrooms very clean. My room was really quiet, hardly noticed any of the other guests. Tildy was absolutely delightful- so friendly and helpful and funny! An excellent location to walk to anywhere in the CBD or... More

Thx for a great mid week break - you even coped with the rug rats! A fantastic base from which to venture to see all the sights of Hobart and surrounds. Not cheap, but budget. Not glitzy but classy - A home away from home with the hostess with the mostest. Still my "outpost of mercy in a land of... More

Charming heritage-style hotel, well-maintained throughout, with very clean and comfortable rooms and facilities. Bathrooms were impeccably cleaned daily. Great location in the heart of Hobart. However, full brick construction means the rooms are also very insular and quiet, from both street noise and other rooms. The hotel's manager, Tildy, is warm and inviting and makes guests feel welcome and comfortable;... More

Not the most luxurious place, but good central accommodation at a good price, and lots of character(s) thrown in for free. There seems to be a core of regular clients, and it felt a bit like stepping back in time to Old Hobart, as we sat at breakfast listening to them reminiscing about the old times, with anyone free to... Found The Astor on Tripadvisor and stayed 5 nights whilst enjoying lovely Hobart. As per previous reviews much of the charm of this quaint old guesthouse lies with the irrepressible Tildy. Yes she is loud, friendly and the soul of the Astor. Makes staying here so much more enjoyable than a bland hotel. Room was quite basic but sufficient with... More

Stayed here with bushwalking friends, and this place is well known to bushwalkers. They return here year after year. It's always been full other times I have tried to go. Tildy is a hoot, and warm and friendly. You feel like her new best friend. She works hard to make you feel at home. Basic rooms, but clean and quiet.... More
