What a fantastic place is the Astor. From the Axminster to the attendant Tildy. If you dont want characterless, souless and boring accommodation then look at Hotel Astor. Old style service but nothing old fashioned about the amenities - clean, very comfortable and close to everything that u want to do in Hobart, Salamanca, MONA, the great outdoors - not... More

Love this place. Lovely decor, basic breakfast. Stayed for 2 nights when we arrived in Hobart and returned a fortnight later for our last night. On the first visit we had one of the front ensuite rooms. Huge lovely room with wifi. On our last night we had one of the standard rooms with shared toilet and shower. The wifi... More

This is a gorgeous olde worlde hotel, lovingly maintained and retaining its orginal charm. Ensuite rooms are large and bright with comfortable beds and windows that really open - what a treat. Given that a simple but substatiantial breakfast is thrown in, the Astor is incredible value. It's also a great location: Salamanca place, Battery Point and and the ferry... More

This beautiful old hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Hobart and within walking distance to restaurants and the water front. Rooms are huge and full of character. Tildy will make you feel at home and always has a story to tell. She's just gorgeous! The front lounge is a lovely place to sit and have a drink and... More

My friend & I shared the spacious & bright ensuite room 34 on a two night trip to visit MONA in Hobart. The Astor Hotel is full of charm, peaceful, rooms were very clean & we both loved the long-time receptionist/Manager Tildy who was lots of fun. We also enjoyed the simple & healthy continental brekky too. One day they... More

Hobart’s Astor Hotel, located near the city’s central shopping area, only 5 minutes walk through pretty and historic St. David’s Park to Salamanca Place and Square (one of the city’s best fusion eating venues, Smolt is found there) and a few more to both the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery as well as the Mona ferry, is a very convenient,... We stayed in the budget rooms recently and it was the cleanest and best smelling budget accommodation I've ever been in, new bed spreads, up to date bathroom and all! Great location close to cbd and Salamanca, gorgeous place full of beautiful antiques, good breakfast. Tildy is wonderful and would stay there again for her alone. Will be trying to... More

We stayed here for 4 nights. The other higher rated hotels on Trip Advisor were almost all out of our price range so I chose this one. It certainly did not disappoint. It was the best accomodation of the trip and one of the best hotels I've stayed in. Tildy was very friendly and welcoming. She knew us by name... More

Stayed here for 4 nights with a group of 8 friends from Melbourne. From the time we walked in the front door we were made to feel like old friends in for a visit. The most charming and friendly staff, beautiful rooms and delightful breakfast room. Rooms are sparkling clean and plenty of comfy furniture. Our room had everything we... More
