Thx for a great mid week break - you even coped with the rug rats! A fantastic base from which to venture to see all the sights of Hobart and surrounds. Not cheap, but budget. Not glitzy but classy - A home away from home with the hostess with the mostest. Still my "outpost of mercy in a land of... More

Charming heritage-style hotel, well-maintained throughout, with very clean and comfortable rooms and facilities. Bathrooms were impeccably cleaned daily. Great location in the heart of Hobart. However, full brick construction means the rooms are also very insular and quiet, from both street noise and other rooms. The hotel's manager, Tildy, is warm and inviting and makes guests feel welcome and comfortable;... More

Not the most luxurious place, but good central accommodation at a good price, and lots of character(s) thrown in for free. There seems to be a core of regular clients, and it felt a bit like stepping back in time to Old Hobart, as we sat at breakfast listening to them reminiscing about the old times, with anyone free to... Found The Astor on Tripadvisor and stayed 5 nights whilst enjoying lovely Hobart. As per previous reviews much of the charm of this quaint old guesthouse lies with the irrepressible Tildy. Yes she is loud, friendly and the soul of the Astor. Makes staying here so much more enjoyable than a bland hotel. Room was quite basic but sufficient with... More

Stayed here with bushwalking friends, and this place is well known to bushwalkers. They return here year after year. It's always been full other times I have tried to go. Tildy is a hoot, and warm and friendly. You feel like her new best friend. She works hard to make you feel at home. Basic rooms, but clean and quiet.... More

We loved the Astor. Had a room with a shower and no problems sharing toilets, plenty of them. Very central location and Tildy is the icing on the cake, helped us with car hire and travel tips and is FUN.

I concur with all the other reviews I read on the Astor but still I am compelled to write our glowing endorsement of the hotel and its proprietor. We had Canadian friends travelling with us and how enlightening for them, and how proud for we 2 Australians,to stay in such accommodation. I hope that the Astor and Tildy never change.

Recently stayed two nights in Hobart to attend a funeral, and had the best time at this establishment. The Hotel is "Olde World" with simple rooms, and gorgeous old décor. The breakfast is continental and plentiful. But the star of the Hotel is the lady called Tildy, she is hilarious, and such fun. She is straight up and tells it... More

I loved this place. It has so much character. Location is fantastic - close to shops and Salamanca. Very clean. Well presented breakfast included in price. Tildy is really helpful and funny. Excellent value.

The hotel is in a beautiful old art deco building with fantastic interior woodwork. Some rooms have en-suite but we had a room with shared bathroom. This wasn't a problem - never had to wait. The room facilities were very basic but it was clean and felt like a step back in time. This is not a hotel for those... More
