I loved this place. It has so much character. Location is fantastic - close to shops and Salamanca. Very clean. Well presented breakfast included in price. Tildy is really helpful and funny. Excellent value.

I really liked the vintage decor of the place - close my eyes and I can imagine Julianna Moore walking through that antique elevators or walking up the stairs with a yellow shawl around her shoulders. The place is a must for vintage lovers. If you're into photography - the place has a plenty of really cool spots to take... More

The Astor is ideally located a stones throw from Salamanca, eateries and the middle of Hobart City. This hotel is great for travelling on a budget as it is good value. It isn't a comfortable hotel but will do. The owner is funny and delightful. Worth a stay.

Highly recommended. Location is one block from major shops, and three blocks from the water. Lots of eating places from subway to excellent restaurants, including in house dining. Old style, and very comfortable. Tildy will make sure you enjoy your stay.

I have stayed here a number of times over the past 15 years or so. Accommodation is reasonably priced and ranges from budget rooms with shared bathrooms (there are lots, I've never had to queue for a bath, shower or the loo) to large ensuite rooms with all the mod cons. A continental breakfast is included in the room charge.... More

If you want a hotel in a historic building smack in the middle of everything with great big rooms and loads of character, the Astor Private Hotel and its wonderful owner is exactly where to stay. Tildy is very funny and helpful and a marvellous character. All the guests seemed to be having a great time and even though we... More

A lovely building with plenty of old world charm. The location is excellent as it's walking distance to the waterfront and Salamanca Place and ideal if you are out and about exploring. We stayed at peak time over New Year for Taste of Tasmania and this offered great value. The hotel is simple, clean and tidy, and shared bathrooms are... More

We stayed for one night at the end of our trip around Tasmania. Tilly was an excellent host and we thoroughly enjoyed the warm welcome, helpfulness and banter. Our room was a lovely and spacious Art Deco room close to the showers and bathrooms - perfect for the price. Would highly recommend this as a city base as it's 1... More

I stayed here one night and thought it was a great place to stay. Beds are super comfy and the owner is a delight. The bathroom is shared but really this isn't an issue as the hotel is just so lovingly cared for. When I returned to pick up my luggage after a rafting trip, Tildy, the owner was out... More

Stayed here 19th to 21st December 2014 on a quick weekend to Hobart for a friend's 21st birthday. As soon as I walked in I knew I would be happy. It just had that "feel" about it. If you remember the style of accommodation of the past when everyone breakfast together in the morning and said good morning what are... More
