Stayed 2nights in a double room on the 2nd floor. (Be warned of the narrow staircase at the front entrance if you are carrying big bags. No lifts.) This is the most dirty, falling apart, rip off accommodation I have ever stayed in - booked for 4 nights, checked out after one. What a disgrace - showers not working, peeling mouldy paintwork, stained carpets and broken furniture, dirty underpants and rubbish on bathroom floors. $55 for a singe room that was tiny, depressingly dirty, falling apart. I loved Central City Backpacker's. Okay, so it's not that modern, but the staff were absolutely lovely. There was heating in the rooms so they were comfortable. I think the toilets/bathrooms were quite cold, though! Luckily, I had the dorm to myself on the last night, which made a nice change from having to share with loads of other people... more

I spent a week in this hostel. It's a large, busy place in the center of town. It's a no frills place, and a little noisy but I'd recommend it for the following reasons: 1) Incredibly friendly, helpful and patient staff. 2) Great location...right in the city center, close to all downtown Hobart shopping and easy walk to Salamanca Market.... more
